  1. You sold me, too! Any leads on a US distributor? Now that does look interesting. i know Stahl from a couple of dates and Ljungkvist too - both interesting players. I'm intrigued by your Giuffre reference. Off to see what I can find....

Oh, and MG: Hobo Flats came out in the Verve LPR series ca. 2008. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001G9LVDE/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1350834245&sr=8-1&pi=SL75
  3. Post a picture if you can! I love Chris Connor.

Hey, I'll take it. Those George Russells are a huge deal. The OJCs just went for over $30 each on eBay. I passed them over 100 times and was biding my time until Fresh Sound stepped in. Glad I can get them legit. Though, yes if I could bitch about one thing, why not pair Reeds & Deeds with Gifts & Messages, the other RK Mercury small group album that's never been available on a standalone CD in Europe/US (or ever-- not sure about Japan)?
  5. Ditto. I haven't pulled the trigger on any NB titles, but have a roughly $500 wish list ... and that's just the box sets and a few LPs.
  6. Wow, frankly I didn't know he was so old. But he was a unique voice and left around a lot of challenging music to unlock, which is saying something.
  7. Agreed. This is a really good one.
  8. God, so sad. He was incredible. I'm glad he got to play so much these last couple years since his illness. I will blast Godspelized to the rafters today.
  9. Hey, I love bass solos, most certainly including Paul Chambers' arcos. I don't get the hate I just think the instrument is interesting and really rewards "microlistening". So I listen to a fair bit of solo bass recordings by Holland, Guy, Kowald, Haker-Flaten, Dresser, Phillips, et al.
  10. I enjoy the whole Froberg empire.
  11. Duke Ellington - An Explosion of Genius 1938-40 (Smithsonian) Sides A-C Ran Blake - Film Noir (Novus) Alongside the Bechet Mosaic Select, this was one hell of a good day at the stereo.
  12. MS-22 Sidney Bechet - Disc 3 Wonderful.
  13. Best of luck with that. But do beware that sellers often sell partials of box sets without warning. But seeing as how this is individual albums, it seems more likely you're in the clear!
  14. I'll have to print it out and compare. I'd love the Mosaic but can't rightly say when I'll ever have $200 to spend on music at one time.
  15. Between this and the Smithsonian 6xLP, roughly what percentage of the Mosaic would I have?
  16. Good spot, but it says it's a double LP release, actually. Max Roach - Loadstar I wonder what label it's on? This is available now, though DG has sold out twice. JazzLoft will probably stock it eventually.
  17. I'm hoping for Ran Blake, too. Jimmy Lyons wold be great, though I have all of his personally.
  18. None. I lack the time, energy, and desire to do digital music.
  19. Good one.
  20. Human Arts Ensemble - Under The Sun (Arista/Freedom) Did A/F ever circulate albums that weren't promos? Because I swear I've never seen one. All my Braxton Aristas are promos, too.
  21. Huge fan. I first heard him on Duets (Wesleyan) 2002 and have sought out everything he works on ever since. That Book of Three trio is fantastic. On his website there's a download of a show of theirs that's well worth a listen. His admixture of Bubber Miley and Bill Dixon is really something, but he has his own voice as well. Also, as you alluded to, he does great work with the music as the head of the Tri-Centric Foundation and Festival for New Trumpet Music, and with Firehouse 12. Thumbs up from me.
  22. That's bizarre-- I was just listening to an episode of On Point on the Savory Collection and this fact was just mentioned. A great modern-day version is Jason Moran's gorgeous solo piano rendition.
