  1. Any sessions from the set that are out on CD that you guys might recommend?
  2. A steal at about $10 for the pair, methinks.
  3. I found this from an Amazon user review. It made me chuckle "To say that Lester Young's best work was complete by the early 40's is ridiculous. This is a statement made by a person who clearly knows the subject very little. Mr. Pekar probably read a few reviews and then decided to write his own - without examining the body of work. Dimwit!"
  4. I've actually considered bumping it up to my #1 for next month, in leiu of the other rather uinspiring titles I have on there. I think I just may do that.

    Miles

OK, nevermind. It's off Amazon again.
  6. There's a Carter/Bradford on ebay right now. I wonder how much someone who can't wait a few more weeks is willing to pay ...
  7. A sad day indeed. RIP.
  8. Well, why not. I'll take #81 in December. PM sent.
  9. Yeah, I've been looking for it for a while. Glad I could find the original LP!
  10. A bit of a Hat Hut spree, though with a modest total, as all titles were discounted/cut-out: Plus:
  11. Clifford Brown Memorial Album (Blue Note) with Lou Donaldson, Elmo Hope, Gigi Gryce, Percy Heath, PJJ, Charlie Rouse, John Lewis, and Art Blakey.
  12. People do that sometimes, for utterly unknown reasons. Possibly a computer pricing program glitch? The Andrew Hill (16) and Gerry Mulligan sets are also often priced this way by secondhand sellers.
  13. Buck Clayton - The Hucklebuck/Robbin's Nest original Columbia LP, $2 The Columbia Library of Classic Jazz box, $6
  14. Bird/The Savoy Recordings (Master Takes) Miles, Diz, Bud, Max, Duke, Tommy Potter, Curley Russell, John Lewis, Nelson Boyd, and Tiny Grimes/Clyde Hart/'Doc' West/Jimmy Butts.
  15. Thanks. I have no problem buying second-hand either, I would just be interested to hear some good brand names.
  16. Jimmy Rowles - Mosaic Select 19: Pacific Jazz Piano Trios with Clare Fischer, Dick Twardzik, Russ F\reeman, Shelly Manne, Red Mitchell, Joe Mondragon, Monty Budwig, Carson Smith, Peter Littman, Mel Lewis, Ben Tucker, Nick Fatool, Gary Peacock, Ralph Pena, Albert Stinson and a couple others. Beat to the punch, but I expanded the options ... a bit ...
  17. Wait, I knew I was wrong about Ralph Pena on The Easy Way. It was Ray Brown.
  18. Jimmy Giuffre - The Easy Way with Jim Hall and Ralph Pena.
  19. Anybody? I'm looking at this, cheap as it is: http://www.amazon.com/Jensen-3-Speed-Stereo-Turntable-Radio/dp/B000UVKE2I I can't find any overtly negative reviews, but I can't help but think there's probably more out there. MP3 conversion is not a priority; in fact I'd almost prefer one without this function, but it seems to be practically standard on the cheaper models. Any input would be appreciated!
  20. Whoa, I wish. Any more info on that one?

    Anthony Braxton

Not sure; I've heard differing opinions. I like his other duet situations with Tietelbaum and that one is at the top of my AB "looking for" list along with Solo (London) 1988, Eight (+3) Tristano Compositions, and Six Duets (1982) with John Lindberg.

    Anthony Braxton

A good deal on ebay-- I'd take advantage, but alas, to quote Mr. Braxton: "No coins" Quartet (London)[?] 1985 Leo 3xLP for sale at $35.00 http://cgi.ebay.com/ANTHONY-BRAXTON-quartet-1985-box-set-750-pressed-3-LP-/130407620915?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item1e5ce66133 (No affiliation w/ seller) One of 750. I've never actually seen one of these and always assumed they'd go for much money.
  23. Hm. I like the cover on the Blue Note set, but one of those tri-tones would've also been elegant.
  24. Harold Land - The Fox with Dupree Bolton, Elmo Hope, Herbie Lewis and Frank Butler.
