  1. Yeah, sorry that "sale" is a joke.
  2. Yup. Which has provided bedside reading in my home as of late!
  3. Probably my Mosaic Selects, especially #s 2-11, though #27 (Cohn, Newman, Green) is especially close to my heart.
  4. Hm, still says no.
  5. Hm, I'm unable to post the rest due to an image limit restriction. Anybody want to post it for me? I can send you the info in a PM. I really enjoy seeing photos in these reveal threads ...
  6. Many apologies for the delay of this round-up, especially to Tom from RI whose Blindfold Test kicks off today! I had a lot of fun putting this one together. I was hoping to procure an mp3 converting turntable for this test but wasn’t able to get one on time, which limited my selections just a bit. I was hoping to include a Stan Hasselgard cut from his Capitol 45, some Irving Fazola or George Lewis on Commodore; I was also dying to include Arne Domnerus’ “Body and Soul” cut for Prestige in 1950 but was unable to come up with any of these in a digital form. So CDs it was! I hope you enjoyed it. Not many surprises here, but a couple: Track One: Dave Douglas – “Blinks” from Bow River Falls (Koch, 2004) Dave Douglas (t), Louis Sclavis (cl), Peggy Lee (clo), Dylan van der Schyff (d) Track Two: Johnny Dodds/Tiny Parham – “Oh Daddy Blues” from Riverside History of Classic Jazz (originally rec. 1926) Johnny Dodds (cl), Tiny Parham (p) Track Three: Freddie Green – “Something’s Gotta Give” from Mr. Rhythm (RCA Victor, 1955) Joe Newman (t), Henry Coker (tb), Al Cohn (cl), Nat Pierce (p), Freddie Green (g), Jo Jones (d) Track Four: Red Norvo – “Blue Skies” from Masters of Classic Jazz: Swing Greats (originally rec. 1944) Red Norvo (vib), Aaron Sachs (cl), Danny Negri (p), Remo Palmeri (g), Clyde Lombardi (b), Eddie Dell (d) Track Five: Jimmie Noone’s Apex Club Orchestra – “I Know That You Know” from Apex Blues (originally rec. 1928) Jimmie Noone (cl), Joe Poston (as), Earl Hines (p), Bud Scott (bjo), Johnny Wells (d) Track Six: Buddy DeFranco – “Dancing on the Ceiling” from Chronological Classics 1949-1952 (originally rec. 1951) Berine Glow, Lou Mucci, Al Porcino (t); George Arus, Billy Byers, Fred Zito (tb); Buddy DeFranco (cl), Eddie Caine, Tommy Mace (as); Stan Kosow, Jerry Sanfino (ts), Danny Bank (bs); Jimmy Lyon (p); Jimmy Raney (g); Leonard DeFranco (b); Morey Feld (d) Track Seven: Anthony Braxton/Stewart Gillmor Duo – “Skylark” from 14 Compositions (Traditional) 1996 (Leo, 1996) Anthony Braxton (cl), Stewart Gillmor (p) Track Eight: Jimmy Giuffre – “Yggdrasill” from Free Fall (Columbia, 1962) Jimmy Giuffre (cl) Track Nine: The Earl Hines Quartet – Honeysuckle Rose” from Harlem Lament (originally rec. 1937) Omer Simeon (cl), Budd Johnson (ts), Earl Hines (p), Wallace Bishop (d)
  7. Does this 3rd volume mean Essential Media Group has released more material than Fantasy/OJC?
  8. My deepest condolences to you. Peace and blessings to you and your family.
  9. Makes me homesick for my old town that actually had a record store. Buying at random on the internet is way too hard, I really love the "luck of the draw" nature of the used section.
  10. Hm, thanks for the info ... good to know. Unfortunately, in my income bracket, it's hard to care ...
  11. Finally scored this on Ebay after a 3-year search-- and the first I've seen of it on there, too. Very, very excited to have this (especially as the tape mentioned in the first post was subsequently stolen from my car!)
  12. I've noticed the mono box can easily be had for $100 on Ebay. Makes me chuckle to think of the freak-out which ensued on the Hoffman board when someone heard that EMI was only pressing 10,000 copies per continent ... "will there be enough?!?!?"
  13. Gone now. How much did it go for? There is/was one on ebay for "only" $600.
  14. Oh, damn I just saw this. I've sent you a PM and another copy. Apologies again and enjoy!!
  15. The set that will not be discounted! Has to happen sometime, doesn't it??
  16. Some of the best Art Blakey on record!
  17. Some cheap and complete Mosaics on Amazon to look out for: Art Pepper Pacific Jazz LP - $99 Mulligan/Baker LP - $99 Four Freshmen - $130 Ike Quebec 45s - $59 plus I noticed the non-Mosaic Complete Monk Blue Note Recordings is going for $19.99 used.
  18. Not so much crazy price-wise, but one to drool over-- all 3 volumes of Commodore, sealed: http://cgi.ebay.com/COMPLETE-COMMODORE-JAZZ-MOSAIC-LPs-VOL-1-3-SEALED-/190464897266?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item2c5897b0f2#ht_1601wt_1137
  19. Are you referring to The Braxton Quartet Plays Braxton "on" Music & Arts? Because I have yet to find evidence of this one's existence. Another problem I have with the last edition is the inclusion of so many records that are so ridiculously out of print that it's just frustrating to read about how great and essential they are (The Baptised Traveller for instance).
  20. A shame, I was really looking forward to a new edition but I feared there would not be one after Cook's passing ... it appears that I'm right.
  21. Alright, I've sent the link to those who asked for it and CDs should be with people shortly. Anyone else may feel free to request a link and I'll send it by. One note about the link. When I clicked on it in the PMs I sent, this: <br%20/> was tacked onto the end for some reason. Just delete that part of the link and it should take you to the right place. If it says the download is unavailable, just refresh and it should work. Hopefully this is the last of the trouble with all that. I hope you all enjoy the music.
  22. Greetings. Sorry for the delay in having the test available. I will post a download and send out discs tomorrow!
  23. Indeed! The version of "Too Close For Comfort" is a favorite rendition of a favorite tune. And Danny Richmond is always worth hearing.
  24. Wow, between the Threadgill, Rivers, Ellington, Henderson and Lunceford sets, it sounds like a new golden age at Mosaic!
