    Anthony Braxton

If you're looking to fill in some holes, there is a wealth of Braxton for auction on ebay with low starting prices. Some very rare titles. http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?rt=nc&LH_Auction=1&_nkw=anthony+braxton&_trksid=p3286.c0.m301
  3. Great!
  4. Don't worry, there's some tenor in the mix.
  5. Especially after having listened to Out to Lunch the past couple days, my unequivocal answer would be Dolphy.
  6. Sign up here for next month's Blindfold Test. I can begin sending out downloads and discs next week. I hope that you all enjoy this one. I've decided to focus in on the clarinet, which was something of a challenge given the relatively limited range of performers to choose from. But I think I've come up with something enjoyable that will also have some scratching their heads (though I fear my pre-war selections stand no chance against JeffCrom's iron ear).
  7. Agreed re: Movie Mars. Of all the companies mentioned, they're the worst at listing items they don't really have.
  8. VAO - The Minimalism of Erik Satie and Bley/Peacock/Koglmann - Annette are out now.
  9. Ellis Larkins Decca/Storyville?
  10. Oh, I meant nothing by it. Those are just some personal favorite discs and I can't imagine letting them go myself. But to each his own, of course!
  11. Ha! I liked the album very much back when, but never that much! & the Gastr Del Sol is indeed a winner.
  12. I can't find takers anywhere for this stuff, but I can't help but feel it's of SOME value, so before slogging my way over to Ebay, I'll just see if there any interest at all here. Shipping will be 2.00 per title, less for multiple items. LPs Wreckless Eric 10" - $8 Jason Molina - Let Me Go ... - $10 The Prisoners - A Taste of Pink! - $20 UK Squeeze (red vinyl) - $8 The Crazy World of Arthur Brown - $8 Malcolm McLaren - Duck Rock - $8 CDs Fred Frith - Guitar Solos - $8 Au Pairs - Sense & Sensuality - $8 Gastr Del Sol - Upgrade & Afterlife - $5 dump (Yo La Tengo's James McNew) - that skinny motherfucker with the high voice? - $12 Lifter Puller (pre-Hold Steady) - Fiestas & Fiascos - $10
  13. Ack, please tell me you have back-up copies of the Cecil Taylor discs!
  14. I finally got the Best Of disc in the mail and love it. I'll certainly spring for at least one of these.
  15. http://shop.ebay.com/essingejazz1001/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p4340 No affiliation w/ seller, just something I stumbled upon. Some amazing deals here.
  16. You know, once when I was getting some fillings done (which was not so much painful and very, very uncomfortable -- and slightly painful) I concentrated on some pieces from Tony Williams' Lifetime album which proved a nice distraction. I would recommend that one.
  17. #699, Ran Blake/Steve Lacy/Ricky Ford - Something to Live For: The George Gershwin Songbook is now available from JazzLoft http://www.jazzloft.com/p-52888-that-certain-feeling-george-gershwin-songbook.aspx Now, #698 (Sun Ra) was the previous release. #700 is Braxton's Willisau 1991 ... fingers crossed. edit: It appears that #667. ICP Orchestra - Jubilee Varia is also out.
  18. Thanks. I have the Monk, Powell, Jacquet and JJ Johnson discs, but will absolutely check out the others. The James Moody, Dexter Gordon, Diz/Savoy and Coleman Hawkins (as per papsrus' post) have been on my "to buy" list for quite a while.
  19. A 2CD set, very widely available and modestly priced. Enjoy! http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Rca-Victor-Recordings-1947-1949/dp/B000002WRX/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1285615574&sr=1-1
  20. Thanks for the recs! I do have the Prestige First sessions, Dameron/Navarro, Gillespie and Marmarosa material, but I will certainly check out the others. Oh, and yes, you cannot go wrong with Diz's Complete RCA Victor Recordings.
  21. Vague, perhahps, but I'm wondering if anyone could direct my attention to more recordings from this era. I'm thinking particularly of things like Stan Getz's Roost recordings, Sonny Stitt's early Prestige material, Gene Ammons' Young Jug etc. Lo-fi, 2-3 minute small group jazz from the late 40s/early 50s that bridges the gap from bop to hard bop or mainstream. There's just something so perfect about this approach to me ... I can't get enough.
  22. I'll download. Hopefully I'll actually have something to contribute this time around!
  23. Or sing it, if you've seen Spike Lee's Katrina doc.
  24. Hm, I wish I'd known that before I dropped $18 on a CD from Italy on Ebay a few weeks ago. Needless to say it hasn't shown up ...
