  1. I listened to Sound Grammar a few times yesterday, and it really is one of my favorite recordings of his. Something about the instrumentation .... such a beautiful, broad canvas. I *think* this performance was taped in an ampitheater, but either way that's what it sounds and feels like: like it's Ornette, the stars, and the big night sky.
  2. Louis Moholo-Moloho has a new one on Ogun with an Italian group that features, among others, Pino Minafra and Roberto Ottoviano. https://www.dustygroove.com/item/755446
  3. A day you know will come but can never prepare for. We lived in a different world before Ornette and now we live in a different one without him again. If ever a musician deserved out utmost thanks, it is him. My gratitude is bottomless.
  4. Welcome Olie. Much to enjoy and learn here.
  5. Looks good! Also a new Resonance Ensemble forthcoming.

    Steve Lacy

The exclamation points are what get me.

Corbett vs Dempsey will be reissuing Tips on CD this month. Hooray!! https://www.dustygroove.com/item/756185
  8. By coincidence I was listening to The Freedom Book yesterday and Alan Dawson was just smoking. The first cut, "A Lunar Tune" has jaw-dropping playing from everyone, especially Jaki Byard, but just ... holy shit, Alan Dawson. Nobody plays quite like him.
  9. Don't like the bells & whistles on the 70s stuff in the first place so this sounds like a no go for me.
  10. Wow, I missed this the first time around. This will absolutely be worth a read.
  11. I getting this Apparently this a deluxe book/CD/DVD thing so $70 is the actual price. More than I'd prefer to spend on 3CDs but I will get around to it one day. Squidco does have it now.
  12. I've only had positive experiences on Discogs. It's the most no-bullshit place on the internet as far as pricing. Gouging is very rare. edit: in my experience buying primarily avant/free improv CDs. YMMV on other fronts.
  13. Dusty G lists it in stock on or around June 1. Should be double CD at $24.99 if other CDs from the label are any indication.
  14. Yeah. I suggested those two would make a good pairing in the Impulse! twofer series a few years back and Chuck pointed out it would get into double-disc territory. Still a pity.
  15. That is the highlight of the record for me. I find whenever I pull this one out it gets spun over and over for days.
  16. Once again, Mark, wonderful work on the article. I'm so glad that people like Marcus Belgrave can get such a thorough and dedicated tribute in print.
  17. Very sad. RIP.
  18. Why do you avoid their LPs? I avoid LPs in general just because I prefer CDs and listen to 99% of my music in the kitchen or in the car. But I also find NB LPs (and new vinyl in general) to be overpriced. I will get the Convergence album but it will run me more than $25 and I think that's both unfeasible and a little nuts. I agree that Tribal Ghost is great.
  19. Four new ones on No Business: Berger/Knuffke CD Howard Riley LP Covergence Quartet LP Keune/Lash/Noble LP Schlippenbach/Hubweber/Schubert/Thomas/Keller CD I generally avoid their LPs but will make an exception for the new CQ!
  20. Already available from grooves-inc w/ free intl shipping. I almost added it to my order of Steve Lacy's Shots but showed (admirable!) restraint.
  21. There's a new Anti-House release with guest Oscar Noriega.
  22. I've posted this before, but listen to this rendition of one of his signature tunes which features jaw-dropping playing from the late Tim Green:
  23. Hard days. RIP.
