  1. What living under Bobby Jindal for another two years means.
  2. That was more of an "I wish/yeah right" thing. I emailed Martin Davidson about it and he said Evan Parker was going to reissue it through psi, but since the label is defunct he doesn't know what his plans are. Anyone know how to get in touch with Evan Parker....?
  3. Link coming soon. Sign up for the February 2015 test here. I haven't done one of these in a while and I forgot how hard it is! This one had many iterations but what I finally settled on was perfectly simple: some of my very favorite music. Now, it's no secret that the avant garde is my wheelhouse and so my selections definitely fall into that category. That said, I recognize that the audience for these tests, while multifacetd, trends toward the middle ground and so I certainly took that into account. You won't find anything too untoward here. I think that my selections are all highly musical and spirited and I think there's a lot to like for someone who doesn't listen to this type of stuff. I will add that there isn't a whole lot of trickery or obscurity going on here so some of these may not be terribly hard to identify for some. What I hope I created overall is an enjoyable and moving listening experience. So please, do dive in! I look forward to hearing everyone's thoughts. And, of course, don't hold back!
  4. Geez I'm jealous of that one. Enjoy. I hope we get a recording either from that residency or their recent US tour.
  5. Two new Rogue Arts: Roscoe Mitchell Trio (Fei/Winant) - Angel City Matthew Shipp Trio (Bisio/Dickey) - For Duke
  6. I bought the Togashi Spiritual Nature on pre-order for $8.48.
  7. My impression of Gram Parsons isn't what it was when I was 18 and damn near worshipped the guy, but I sure don't think he's nothing. He had a spirit in him that comes through in his best work, and nothing he did was less than fine. Now, is it fair to put him against James Carr? That's not fair to anyone. Like most he's suffered his share of overinflated posthumous blabbery but that's not fair to hold against him either. Is what it is. For my part I never could cotton onto the idea that The Monkees were anything less than junk, despite whatever cred Mike Nesmith lays claim to, Head included. Just don't buy it and never will. The idea that The Byrds are a lesser singles band than anyone is personally offensive to me. Most important takeaway? Gene Parsons had the talent, Gram Parsons had the spark, and Gene Clark is the most superior white rock musician of the 1960s era. My 2 cents, YMMV^ ∞
  8. I hope it will be recorded for many reasons, but most of all to get more Tomeka Reid on record. Will you be attending, Chuck?
  9. I think he's suitably outstanding on Andrew!! Maybe not as memorable on Blowing In From Chicago but that one is a favorite nonetheless.
  10. David S Ware - Live at Jazzfestival Saalfelden 2011 What We Live - s/t Cecil Taylor - Olu Iwa Cecil Taylor - Winged Serpent Convergence Quartet - Slow & Steady The first two are Amazon Prime orders. Any other Prime members notice that 2-Day Shipping isn't remotely that these days? I had these items in my cart Tuesday and it quoted a Friday delivery. I ordered them today and I'll get one Monday and one Tuesday. wtf.

I look forward to hearing it: http://www.amazon.com/Self-Determination-Music-John-Carter/dp/B00S2WUEN6/ref=sr_1_3?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1421786707&sr=1-3&keywords=john+carter+bobby+bradford
  12. Ha. I'm a chef.
  13. Coupled on a DVD along with an Ornette Coleman short that has priceless footage of the Izenon/Moffett trio recoding the Who's Crazy soundtrack.
  14. Not a lot that caught my attention (that I don't already have), but I picked up: Sten Sandell Trio + John Butcher - Strokes Marty Ehrlich's Rites Quartet - Frog Leg Logic Empty Cage Quartet - Gravity Not at all familiar with the last one, but the blurbs swung me (Waddada is a fan).
  15. Me too, from the same place a few months ago when it was $8.47. I wonder how a title comes to be priced like that at random.
  16. Schlippenbach Trio - Gold Is Where You Find It $3.47 at Amazon
  17. Two new TUMs that look nice: Mikko Innanen w/ William Parker & Andrew Cyrille Bill Laswell & Milford Graves well, amended: YMMV w/ the latter. Duos with Graves are always a good idea, but I can't stand Bill Laswell. Total cheeseball. But I'd keep an open mind for this one.

  19. That's one of a few Lps that I regret selling many years ago. I found my copy in mint shape for $4 and could not resist the easy/quick profit to be had at the time One I want a lot, too but I can't blame you -- I might do the same.
  20. I have the Lester Young clarinet collection he did. Awful, awful, awful.
  21. Along those lines, is it widely known there's a video of GUO from 1970 on there? I just saw it for the first time last night. Pretty amazing to see a 26yo Evan Parker, among all the others.
  22. Passed this up a million times at my old haunt in Iowa City. Original press for $5. Oops?
