  1. Never seen that one. Looks great.
  2. Thanks for the heads up. I'll get the Mad Dogs OTL set, too. Glad to see one of these for sale in the US, that's kind of what I've been holding out for. I grabbed a couple stealth Amazon Prime deals (free two-day shipping): Joe Maneri Quartet - Let The Horse Go $5.97 Thomas Borgmann Trio - The Last Concert $7.97
  3. As I mentioned in the Listening thread the other day, Conference of the Birds sounds like shit. But I suppose that was in the air at the time. Really? How so? I have a mint German vinyl issue and it sounds excellent to me... I admit I only have the CD, but the bass is the typical 70s sound: clear, thin, and rubbery. The drums are distant and tinny. Generally no depth with kind of an odd balance. Maybe I'd be happier with a German LP. But like I said, it comes off as typically terrible 70s production to me. I'd rather it were ECM'd!
  4. Came here to post this very video, but I'll add this one in its place: (here, again, is the video posted initially-- worth another look!):
  5. As I mentioned in the Listening thread the other day, Conference of the Birds sounds like shit. But I suppose that was in the air at the time.
  6. I was wondering if there was an error or recall of some sort as it seemed to have been yanked. I guess not? I'll just place an order with Uptown then.
  7. Thanks. Thanks to my father I have had an appreciation for Sam Cooke's music since I was 5 years old and I know my appreciation for his art will carry on to my final days. Glad to see someone paying him the attention he deserves.
  8. I'm two days away from the 10 day mark on the item I ordered ("usually ships in 5-10 days), which I was charged for and know I will never receive. I will ask for a refund at that time and hope that this doesn't become an enormous hassle.
  9. Might as well ask this here as it's something I've always wondered and never bothered to find out: is the EC RVG studio still around? Is it still more or less the same as it was or has it been renovated?
  10. This is the problem with Garden. I've never seen either individual volume at a price that wouldn't be laughable for the whole thing.
  11. The never-endingly frustrating Upcoming Releases (starting April 2015) has been updated yet again with a million more additions and really frustrating new configurations of the items dogging this list for 10 years: http://www.hathut.com/upcoming (If you think not reissuing the Braxton stuff for 20-25 years is getting old, just wait until he puts out one half and never releases the other...) Obligatory bitching, however, must be countered by obligatory thanks for all the label has done and continues to do despite all odds ...
  12. Now shipping: http://www.aerophonicrecords.com
  13. More like Bottomless Pit of Nightmares.
  14. I just can't fathom trying to replace a piano with Fender (which I just flat out hate). Why bother with the performance under those conditions? Sounds like a bummer to me.
  15. Spoon - Girls Can Tell The Walkmen - Bows + Arrows Built To Spill - Keep It Like A Secret The National - Alligator Sun Kil Moon - Ghosts of the Great Highway
  16. Well put. Reminds me of an anecdote Josh Sinton passed along. Lacy told Sinton he should literally "walk his scales", i.e. walk back & forth a step for each note on a scale. Lacy said it took him a little bit before he felt like he got it down. "How long?" Sinton asked. "Oh, about 25 years" said Lacy.
  17. Sounds like a very nice time.
  18. Cool indeed. Do you think this is the original pressing or the later reissue? I seem to have finally scored The Baptised Traveller! And for $10 to boot. White whale!

I honestly don't much enjoy Roundabout either. The setting and inspiration of the Lincoln project works wonders, though. And if you don't have BOTH recordings with Sara Serpa you are missing out on something major.
  20. Sounds perfect. "There's too much light in the world" -Ran

You can also get the second volume of Ran & Christine Correa's Abbey Lincoln tribute through the website. The first volume was tremendous.
  23. In the middle of assembling a rather large Reckless mailorder, I saw a note posted on the site that they are suspending mailorder for the time being. A fairly devastating blow to this far-flung listener. Fuck.
