Yes, I was referring to Juba Lee. Full discussion here: Coral Rock was never on CD AFAIK. There is the original America LP and a Prestige reissue.

There is a bootleggy version available now but the legit versions remain the original and Japanese LP and CD reissues.
  3. Chris Speed kills in Bloodcount, Endangered Blood and The Same a River Twice.
  4. I have no doubt this makes a lot of people frothingly angry, but I can't be bothered to be bugged. Whatever. I would never pay money for this or listen to it but I appreciate the dedication to both the transcription/playing as well as the gag (or "concept").
  5. PMs on Brotzmann/Bennink, Rara Avis, Schweizer/Bennink
  6. Ran Blake Quartet - The Short Life of Barbara Monk (Soul Note) Perfect in every way.
  7. Got around to ordering the new Coltrane and Giuffre live sets.
  8. I have a couple of the albums on LP and really dig them. Like Jim said, it's a tad slick in spots, but has enough depth and character to surmount.
  9. Thanks. It's two feet away from me, I'm just lazy!
  10. Yeah, those. Lacy only plays on a small bit and I'm not certain he even solos.
  11. The Roach is pretty good, but comparable to other work of the period. Not essential.
  12. Ooh, thanks. Always looking for some Russ Johnson.

  14. I am definitely going for the first one. I might get the DKV down the road as it's inexplicably much less expensive than the earlier box that only had 2 more discs.
  15. Two new Vandermark boxes: 9 Ways To Build A Bridge (6xCD) duos w/ McPhee, Fernandez, Kurzmann and Morris + two trios w/ Wooley & Lytton and Tilbury & Prévost Sound In Motion (5xCD) DKV Trío I think these are all 2014 recordings. Both are available for preorder at Catalytic ($55)
  16. I found $10 copies of Charles Gayle's Abiding Variations and Berlin Movement on FMP. The seller has burned me twice before bit I guess it's worth a shot again. (They always refund for the ones "lost in the mail"...)
  17. Shame. There's not nearly enough Ed Wilerson on record. There's a trio on YouTube with Tomeka and Scott Hesse that's fantastic.
  18. After listening again I really do hear it on the A-side; the B is a bit more "conventional". But their tones are surprisingly similar and Booker plays with a lot of repetition, as well as with that paradoxical urgent languidity Fred has. But maybe I just listen to a lot of Fred!!
  19. I think people underestimate just how much her playing is invested in small gestures, which is something I like about it. I think a lot of people sort of cram her into a more extroverted box than she belongs in. I'd love to hear a recording of the trio with Tom Rainey and Dan Peck: xybert, maybe you'll be put off by Paradoxical Frog, maybe not. This is my favorite context to hear her in, but the Anti-House albums are awesome, too.

  21. I was inspired by this thread to pull out That's It! and was struck by how much Booker sounded like Fred Anderson in places. Not all places, of course, but some. Being the sole horn on the date gives him a lot of room to stretch out which lets him spin some very long lines. But yeah, if I was in the other room I could easily mistake a bit of this for The Missing Link. Also a big fan of the Bethlehem album in question.
  22. Likely just need to restock. So long as you lock in the price you should be good.
  23. The new Jazz Messengers catalogue lists Mohawk and JCO - Communication
