  4. It occurred to me the other day that Moran hasn't released a leader date since 2010. Very unusual!
  5. Intakt is a label I wish I had more from. Quite pricy unfortunately ....
  6. One of my favorites. The last CD I bought at an actual record store almost 4 years ago
  7. A couple: Jason Roebke Octet - High/Red/Center (Delmark) Adasiewicz, Ward, Jackson, Stein, Berman, Bishop, Reed Assif Tsahar/Mark Dresser/Gerry Hemingway - Code Re(a)d (Hopscotch)
  8. Helen Merrill, too. I sort of gave up on that one.
  9. Hm, wow. I'm almost certain my copy is an A/B, but I should probably go check!
  10. I have practically never seen one of these that wasn't a cut-out, no. I think first-run sales for some titles must have run in the dozens, or even less. It's also rare to find copies of the first two Braxton Aristas that aren't promos.
  11. Agreed with Leeway. The Fire Into Music group is a particularly good place to start. They also have a limited LP that can still be found. Two other recent recordings worth checking out are Max Johnson Quartet (MJ, Swell, Mark Whitecage, Tyshawn Sorey) and Dragonfly Breath (Swell, Paul Flaherty, C Spencer Yeh, Weasel Walter). Both are on Not Two. The former is more straightforward & compositional while the later is full-bore, no compromises free improv.
  12. The fate of most Arista/Freedom LPs it seems.
  13. I only have Matador & The Bull. It's a burning, exciting record, but I fully understand where Jim is coming from. I don't feel particularly compelled to check out his other stuff at this point, but I sure dig the hell out of that record when I'm playing it.
  14. I found his clean feed to be pretty dry, but the Consort In Motion album is tremendous to me. Paul Motion is his ideal collaborator. Still would like to check out the Hat albums with Gerald Cleaver in the drummer's chair.
  15. I love what of his I've heard-- need to actually pick up copies of the records.
  16. My wife got a song ringtone from itunes. One-time fee of about a dollar. Seems like the way to go.
  17. Thanks for the rundown, I was intrigued by this event.
  18. I cannot lie...I don't own it! I swear if you post part 2 I'll grab it!
  19. PMs on: Michael Dessen Trio - Resonating Abstractions - (Clean Feed) Made To Break (Vandermark/Kurzmann/Hoff/Daisy) - Provoke - (Clean Feed) Frank Rosaly - Cicada Music - (Delmark) Spontaneous Music Ensemble - Challenge 1966-7 - (Emanem) Nate Wooley/Peter Evans/Jim Black/Paul Lytton - Trumpets and Drums - (Clean Feed)
  20. Billy Bang never played an indifferent note to my ears.
  21. Thirded! I got the deal of a lifetime on a Braxton box set that I'll never forget. This is the way it should be done. Thanks indeed.
  22. I also bought some Mark Whitecage today. Hope to go back for a few more from the cleanfeed sale if it's still on next week.
  23. Certainly sounds PD.
  24. Gah!! No JAZZ REALITIES?
