  1. Other people answered this for me. Just passing the time.
  2. Some I know of are the Brotzmann and GUO ones on FMP, Ken Vandermark - Eight Ball and a Frank Rosaly/Keefe Jackson one. Any others? I guess you could also count that strange Ornette 45.
  3. A minor quibble, but the jewel case is a bummer. Couldnt spring for a nice digipack on this premium-price limited edition set? Isn't it a rule that the re-reissue should look nicer than the original reissue? GIMME GIMME GIMME WAH WAH WAH, I know ...
  4. They announced a Wardell Gray set in a late-80s catalog, but alas ... Re:Contemporary, a Curtis Counce Select was mentioned once, too. And again, alas ...
  5. I had my eye on those. I'd so like to place an order, but I know now's not the time ... FWIW, I also love the Jeweled Antler material. I listened to a lot of that at the time, and it was always my favorite stuff to come out of the early 2000's "freak folk" thing.
  6. Replied via email.
  7. Never heard of that one, but it looks nice.
  8. Stravinsky was a big fan of his, yes.
  9. I think reading Jeff's post just before turning in last night caused me to dream about seeing 80s Miles at a small Cedar Rapids, IA high school football field ...
  10. Gonna try this one more time ... anyone?
  11. No question the Roost material (duh <---) I actually like the earlier quartet tracks better than the iconic quintet ones with Jimmy Raney, but that's just splitting hairs of course. Nothing else I've heard from him touches that.
  12. Simply can't afford them, either to buy or own. Time was I had 10+ big boxes and 20+ Selects. They're all gone now. I couldn't justify owning them given my financial situation. I don't think about them any more, or pay much mind to the label. So it goes.
  13. These are the times we live in.
  14. Very sad news. I've been a fan since watching Woodstock when I was 10. Mixed Bag and 1983 are seriously great records and were never heard as widely as they ought to be. Ditto Live at the Cellar Door and the Great Blind Degree.
  15. Jason Moran's solo recitation is truly stunning.
  16. So great to hear!
  17. Possibly my favorite version of "Take the 'A' Train".
  18. Yeah, "Summertime" is beautiful. The album itself is quite mediocre, though, IMO.
  19. Updates?
  20. The Group is great. Kind of an easy-going all-star vibe, but Billy Bang is on FIRE. He takes a solo on "Porkpie Hat" that's one of the best I've ever heard.

    Richard Davis

83 today. I didn't see a dedicated thread on here, so here it is. What can you say? For my money, the greatest bassist who ever lived, Mingus included. Here's to many more years! I'm particularly fond of his work on Out To Lunch, At the Five Spot, Point of Departure and, of course, Astral Weeks.
  22. Added a couple more & dropped prices.
  23. Shit, lousy time to be broke. Any idea how long this will go? Next by Bynum/Morris/Schoenbeck is very strong.
  24. There's also the great Porter songbook duo with Red Mitchell, I Concentrate on You.
