  2. Man this thread is hilarious. Did not one single woman weigh in, or was I reading too fast? My husband likes Dylan mostly, and asks me to turn down my music down most of the time, but I've got him to come around to Trane and Duke and some more inside others. He did on the other hand make me throw out my CD crystal boxes and store my CDs in notebooks (which certainly isn't the end of the world) whereas we've got his 2000 films taking up a goodly amount of RE in our lil apt. Course I don't mind that at all in fact cause they're great films, every single one.
  3. don't miss the 5* reviews either: wait, it must be a joke. Funny! wait: there are heaps of hilarious 5* reviews. Randy Twizzle, is this your dirty work? muahahaha
  4. WKCR Memorial Broadcast on now.
  5. Just polished off Colum McCann's Let the Great World Spin, which I loved. Thinking I'll tuck in to another Irish-American novel next: perhaps Tom Kelly's Sandhogs.
  6. The Davis character is based on Davis Rogan, a dear friend from college, who is indeed very hip musically All the mannerisms and language are completely his, as are the musical refs. Regardless though, best show I ever saw on TV, evah.
  7. Killing, and free online http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/thelonious-monk/concerts/newport-jazz-festival-july-03-1959.html:
  8. Hippest Birdies Two Ewes Allen xxox
  9. Orrin Evans bday party last night at the Zinc simply killing. Nasheet Waits on drums, but a revolving trio with horns galore sitting in. Perfectly swinging. The reason I love NYC
  10. A friend's father, a gentleman well known in the jazz world, died recently and she wants to sell his jazz record collection as a piece. Should 700 well-cared for jazz records interest you as a buyer, please message me and I'll put you in touch.
  11. Isn't the How High the Moon on here on Pure Ella?
  12. Jimmy and Tootie Heath w Roy Hargorve; Cyrus Chestnut; Yotam Silberstein; Helio Alves. At the Bluenote
  13. After their first couple albums I could never listen to the Who, but I'd blame Townsend over Moon.
  14. Where or When is one of my favorite ever tunes and I find what she does to it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_myX0BIyWh0.
  15. do you mean the headhunters one? oh, sorry, you mean the byrds.
  16. exactly - it's not as if lou reed's guitar playing was leaving her in the dust.
  17. Saw them last night at the Jazz Gallery. Montez Coleman is a fine drummer; Sameen Aleem played bass. Those two are about to go out with Roy's quintet, Joel Holmes on piano, to Europe for a month. Last night a great trumpet player whose name I didn't catch played with them for the first time. Only heard a few tunes though, as I was at work til 11. Walked in on Every Time we Say Goodbye, which Roberta sings. I believe guitarist Saul Rubin arranged it. He's a beautiful human so if you meanies say anything about him why, I'll... Next was Frank Lacy's gorgeous tune Requiem, with Vincent Chandler on 'bone. If I recall correctly Roy conducted the four trumpets in a showdown here and didn't play. Then he did play his swinging September in the Rain, which he sings. Would have liked to have seen My Funny Valentine, which I think he plays beautifully on Emergence. Though Roy's records seldom capture sound and feel of his live music, I like the sound of this record - doesn't have that digitally dead nonbreath of so many new discs. I like the last tune, Depth, as well.
  18. Mo Tucker is not a guy.
  19. I ran into Johnny Griffin at Trestle on 10th, a Swiss wine bar and restaurant in Chelsea. Does that count?
