  1. Are you watching these guys? The good ones are boring, and the bad ones make for great tv!
  2. My friend made me a compilation off her computer called, The Chris Collection. Says it right on the cover. Its F*in cool!
  3. I admire everyone's record collection. That Moody cover is classic! I just spinned Chicago 2, the album. Some nice jazz influences.
  4. It's just too bad that we couldn't add to the intelligent, humorous, attractive group of ladies that we already have. Why was she so "sensitive"? Did she like any (other) jazz at all? Oh, well, maybe for the better... Rod Maybe Mr. G.....
  5. Cal was a unique vibist. he had his own style that was simple. As opposed to say Milt Jackson, who added a lot of notes in between, Cal just kept it simple.
  6. Cecil Taylor's a real interesting guy. He's like Monk, in a way. (Not music, they're just really interesting) Many hated Taylor's work, but I think that Rick Kick Shaw track is really cool.
  7. Love his Music From Mexico And Brazil album!
  8. How about the human voice box?
  9. I recently switched to guitar after being a drummer all my life. I also play vibes and piano. Formally a trumpet and trombone player, but lack of playing trumpet, and not having a trombone in my house for more than 5 years, I don't call myself a trumpet or trombone player anymore.
  10. If you guys care about her this much, let's see if she's on the official Noarah Jones forum!
  11. His 50's work is more straight ahead. I like it better. His post 'bridge playing' days recordings are more of a fusion influence. I dont really know, I haven't followed up with him after his Saxophone Colossus, and Tenor Madness days.
  12. Oh, I didn't know you wanted to become a funiture mover. Be careful what you ask for. Guitar is a much lighter instrument to gig on. I spend a good deal of every gig; hooking up my trailer, transporting, loading (trailer, stairs, stages), setting up, breaking down, unloading (stages, stairs, trailer), transporting, unhooking my trailer. It's a LOT of work. Somewhere in there I manage to play 2 or 3 or 4 sets of music. Needless to say, I'm very, very, very tired and 50 bucks richer by the end of the night (oh yeah, then you pay $200 to the organ repairman for a net loss of $150 B-) ). In contrast, the guitar player shows up about 10 minutes before we hit (long after I needed a hand loading in) and splits right after the last set. He's home by the time I'm getting the organ back in the trailer. And don't forget, you're not just hauling a 350 pound organ. There's the Leslie, heavy (and awkward) pedals, bench and then your little cable bag. At least 5 trips to the trailer and back coming and going. (Oh yeah, the you get to PARK the trailer and car. Finding a double spot is near impossible most of the time. Parking garages will charge you double the single car amount). I think you get the picture. Anyway, stick to guitar and you'll thank me later. Oh yeah, but I love it anyway. You sound like my drum teacher. He's like man, these trumpet players come in, put their mouth piece in, than go get a drink. I just started to tune my snare drum.
  13. I want a B-3 soo bad!
  14. Great session. The 'minus piano' gets to me a little bit. Real raunchy stuff. None-the-less, great album!!!
  15. Ruin the weekend? It got me a friken snow day! And two more, because of mid-terms.
  16. How do the volume controls work?
  17. Oh, I just thought organists did the bass notes in their left hand. Shows how much I know about organs. I guess organs are like drums, in a way. More organ ques. What are organists doing when it gets louder and quieter?
  18. I'm not an organist, so I don't know. When I read a little article with a really long quote from Jimmy Smith saying how he hates when organists are too lazy to use the pedals, I got to wondering what they were even used for. What exactly do the pedals do?
  19. Not to mention Roach's drums sound like [crap.] I guess it has a lot to do with how albums are recorded nowadays, buthis bass durm is so dead. i miss his boomy bass drum and the echo of his toms and snare, on say, the Brownie/Roach Quintet albums.

    Grant Green

Well, yeah for what it is I'll probaly love it. I mean, all I know right now about Green is that hes a guitarist. After I read the Miles Davis auto-bio I fell in love with him, and the book, not to mention, and I have more understanding what kind of person not only Davis was, but also about Bird, and really a lot about Philly Joe.

    Grant Green

www.ophira.com/grantgreen/grantbook.html I just found this. Pretty cool!
  22. I been to that place. Cool site! I sent away for the complete fantasy catalogue. It's very good.
  23. I give her credit. People have been here for years and don't get as much recognition as she did. She being here for, 5 minutes, has caused two whole threads devoted completely for her. I'll give her dat!
  24. Those are the players I have listed on the recording. Supposedly Charlie Christian showed up as well. But I could never hear him on the recording, so I can't confirm him being there. He would have soloed at some point I would think. It is a private recording someone traded with me. THere's probaly a good chance of Christian being there. He, Clarke, and monk practically lived there during the late 40's.
  25. Modern Jazz Quartet, pyramid.
