  1. They can't all be gems!
  2. If only I could get a ride.
  3. If I wanted to I could buy a brand new sealed copy of One foot in the Gutter, for 10 bucks, if I wanted to. It's sitting in my local record shop.
  4. The only drummer that really made me ever buy an album because of that drummer being present was Philly Joe. I have about 15 albums with him that I bought, all in a row, starting with Cool Struttin. It was the summer, and every week on Wednesday night, it was like me and dad's time to hang out, we would always go to Borders and I got bought one album a week, with Philly on it. Those were the days!
  5. I've seen the Unity shirt and Art Blakey, Industructable shirt. They are awesome.
  6. Any Walter Wanderly fans here?
  7. This has been pretty vague.

    Billy Gardner

Organist with George Braith. Haven't heard him outside of Braith sessions. Is there sideman material, or possibly a date as a leader?
  9. lemons are not the way to go
  10. LIME all da TIME!
  11. Studio. I think most live preformances are spun off of what came about in the studio. Live preformances are cool, and like a bonus for me, but I couldn't live off live cd's. I could live off studio cuts.
  12. Probaly. Did he not even have his bass drum there at all? Or did he just not play it?
  13. I wonder where his tom was mounted, if there was no bass drum.
  14. Just think of it this way. In 40 years, it will be a bonus track on a reissue.
  15. Yes, I'm sorry. STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID yes, but we got on a topic of Go, well I did, about his drumming on that. Sorry for the left turn.

    FREDDIE IS 67!

    It's pretty good!
  17. that would be awesome... Then we wouldn't have to waste all that money on those Japanese imports that cost over 17 bucks, although in the final outcome it wouldn't be wasted, but you know what I mean. The Sounds are in need of one! More than most, because of how their albums have been reissued over the years.
  18. I'm guessing the jazz store cataloge??
  19. I have never heard Let Freedom Ring, I was ONLY talking about Go, which wasn't that hard to figure out.
  20. I gotta turn the treble down when I listen to that album, and that is not because of Billy. He had the standard rivet setup, but for some reason it just cuts through everything else. With that along with his left hand is how he got his volume on that record. Art Blakey was louder, but completely different in style. Everything was sharp and accented. He would play something that went through the roof, volume wise, then just end it like that, and go back to what he was doing before.

    FREDDIE IS 67!

I just heard Hub Tones on WBGO live radio.
  22. I doubt that you're deaf, but yeah, you're totally wrong. And it's not often that I say that as unequivocally as I am now. Either that, or else we have completely different definitions of what a "basher" is. Allright, take back that basher thing. I wasn't referring to Billy Higgins as a Basher. I was saying he was playing really loud on some Blue Note albums and if you dont think so, you are totally wrong. Someone might be wrong to call him a basher, but they wouldn't be to say he was playing pretty loud on Gigilo and Go. His playing is beautiful on Ornette Coleman's album, and is just perfect on Sidewinder. In the last years of his life, he was playing beautifully. Billy Higgins isn't a basher. He's a great drummer with brilliant talents who happened to play really loud on some BN albums which made me not like them.
  23. I used the term to describe his really loud playing on some songs that I have heard, and he's playing pretty loud. Or I'm just DEAF, and TOTALLY WRONG, yeah I think thats it.
