  1. I guess "wonder" is in the eye of the wonderer. Or the man with the fattest wallet....
  2. Agree wholehearted-lee!
  3. Are you talking about Reggio's, Al? Nope!
  4. Meaning you just got your hands on it, and are surprised it's taken this long to discover it? Or, does this mean you don't have it, and wish you did?
  5. What, the Yankees don't have enough coverage as it is?
  6. Damn near any CTI album has Ron on electric bass. I suggest Freddie Hubbard's STRAIGHT LIFE and RED CLAY for great examples of that!
  7. I had a cousin who used to work there; he called the place "Mal Nutritti's" My favorite pizza in Chicagoland is Riggio's in Niles, off of Milwaukee Avenue; can't remember the cross-street. Coming from Arlington, TX where everything is homogenized, seeing a pizza with entire olives, bacon STRIPS (not crumbles), and all sorts of other chunks of assorted pizza goodies, I knew I'd found heaven! I haven't had a Conan's Pizza in faaaaaaaaaaar too long! Thankfully, Double Dave's is starting to flourish around here; I actually like their pizza, and their pepperoni rolls are to-die-for! Of course, they may kill you, but that's the risk you take! Finally, Mama's Pizza is the one claim to fame that Arlington can legitimately have. They pour the cheese on like there's no tomorrow.... and there may not be if you're not careful!
  8. Yesterday. I found an LP copy of Confirmation (LT-992), and the personnel listing on the back indicates that Art Blakey plays on all three tracks: Confirmation (Feb. 1958) What is This Thing Called Love (Aug. 1957) Cherokee (Aug. 1957) The discography at www.jazzdico.org lists Donald Bailey as the drummer for "What is This..." and "Cherokee." Who was right in this situation: the album or the website?
  9. Hey thanks everybody! Just got back from Ann Arbor where pops and I played last night Tonight we're celebrating my birthday with a concert at The Saugatuck Women's Club.. Ooooohhhhhh yeeeeaaaaahhhh! Whoa! Hope the drinks are on the house, both literally and figuratively (with an emphasis on the FIGURE! )
  10. Kevin has been our "in" with Michael for a long time. When he announces a new batch for a particular date, you can take it to the bank ... to withdraw the cash to pay for 'em. Heh heh heh heh.... yep! -_-
  11. Rangers on an incredible run right now, which I attribute to four things: 1) Sammy hittin' #600 (they're 11-5 since (and including) that game) 2) Mark Texeira and Ian Kinsler on the DL (the first one is overrated, as he only hits when the game is outta reach; the second is greener than the Triple-A guys who are taking their places) 3) Brad Wilkerson FINALLY hitting the ball! The cat's been on fire the last few days! 4) Starting pitchers actually going at least six innings! Unbelieveable! Unheard of in April and May! I hope this means a permanent turnaround. I won't hold my breath, but it sure has been fun being a Ranger fan lately!
  12. To that wannabe on the left, I say to you: I know Randy Marsh. Randy Marsh is a friend of mine. YOU are no Randy Marsh! Happy birthday, drummin' man!
  13. Got it when it came out back in late '89 when I was still in the throes of mass "must have everything Beatles related" euphoria. Didn't make much of an impression on me, and it seemed to open the door for Jeff Lynne to not only fulfill his fantasy of filling the void left by John Lennon, but then proceeded to churn out any number of albums by the various Wilburys that all sounded the same: Full Moon Fever, Cloud Nine (I know it came out before the Wilburys, but still in the same class), the Orbison comeback record (which out of all of these had more than its fair share of grand moments), Lynne's own solo record (I forget the title, it's bad enough I even remembered there was such an animal), Into the Great Wide Open, on and on and on.... all with the same slick synthesized sound. You couldn't tell one record from the other. I'm surprised Dylan didn't get a solo record out of Lynne! I'm with GregK: this could've been so much better, and the fact that it was so off-the-cuff made the notion of paying for this exercise about as insulting as recording a Beach Boys 'party,' and then making people pay for that (although in all fairness, that contained the kind of overproduction that Lynne only dreams about).
  14. Mogie's debut as a leader on Blue Note, when he was only 18!!!! Here's the lineup: Lee Morgan (tp) Clarence Sharpe (as) Horace Silver (p) Wilbur Ware (b) Philly Joe Jones (d) Rudy Van Gelder Studio, Hackensack, NJ, November 4, 1956 tk.3 Gaza Strip tk.4 Reggie Of Chester tk.6 Little T tk.9 Stand By tk.11 Roccus tk.14 The Lady
  15. Where's Uncle Ted when you need him to straighten out you dirty smelly hippies? Hate to sound Pollyannish, but I would have to say it's always been fine. Not always easy, not always fun, but I look at my life right now and as each day passes, I wouldn't change anything in the past for fear of ruining the now.
  16. Wow, sounds like he led quite a life!
  17. "Shades of Redd" is okay to me, and I haven't heard "Redd's Blues;" but I love "The Connection," probably my favorite Jackie McLean quartet album.
  18. Me, too! I'm gonna go broke between Aug. 21 and Sept. 25 (all these RVGs and the new Trane box!)
  19. Judging from his albums (and their covers in particular), I get the impression he's still upset over that whole suffragette movement....
  20. That's a shame! He has a nicely distinctive sound.
  21. Holy cow! Rangers beat the Angels! Can this finally qualify as something of a hot streak for my guys? I hope so!
  22. I hope that we all have the same kind of open-minded forgiveness upon your passing that you're showing here. Big Beat Steve was right: saying "good riddance" is uncalled for.
  23. Some great advice here! My thoughts and prayers are with you while you begin this process of healing and restarting.
  24. Often wondered that myself, but then the only reason I'm familiar with him at all is because I watched a lot of Benny Hill when I was growing up.
  25. The OJC's and other Concord-related titles are now $8.99. Good price to be sure, but man, I wish I'd pulled the trigger last weekend when they were $2 cheaper.
