  1. In all honesty, I really thought his name was spelled with two p's; it was not meant as a slight to Schaap.
  2. That's actually a viable thread, come to think of it. Of course, my answer would STILL be Free for All. ------ Then, of course, you could start a poll asking which do you prefer: Blakey as leader or sideman?
  3. That was my first thought as well.
  4. The "label's worshippers" are probably not the ones buying these compilations. Guy Which is precisely why we have this thread in the first place.
  5. I don't see Some Other Stuff....
  6. When I first saw this thread had been "upped," I forgot this was an old thread and was all set to post UNIT STRUCTURES as my least favorite BN. Well, turns out I already did that. Then, after further reading, I saw AllenLowe's opinion about Lou Donaldson and I thought, "Hey, I kinda agree. I'm gonna post that." Well, turns out I already did that, too! Hell, I'm so predictable even I can tell what I'm about to say next!
  7. Nothing like Aggie jokes straight from an Aggie!
  8. MartyJazz put the track "Spooks" on his BFT sometime back, and I regularly play it at maximum volume, as it sounds like Dixieland on speed. I've listened to sound clips from the album, and have determined that this one track is NOTHING like the rest of the album. Mostly free jazz, from what I could tell. I guess it's alright if you like that kind of thing. Unfortunately, I don't; so, you can take this opinion for whatever it's worth.
  9. True; forgot about that!
  10. What I wouldn't give to have some of Lou Piniella's fire-n-brimstone in the Rangers dugout. Ron Washington is still blissfully unaware that he has the worst team in baseball (either that or he's high).
  11. Only two of the February RVGs? Sheesh! I'll stop waiting on them and start getting the RVGs I've been waiting for (Clubhouse, Detroit-New York Junction, New & Old Gospel) elsewhere.
  12. Finishing up the Hutch Select, disc two. Very nice!
  13. The name of that 1963 session is TOGETHER AGAIN, and it swings all sorts of wonderfully!
  14. If possible buy them both at the same time...if not I'd grab the Parlan because it's been around longer...or the Turrentine because I think it's a little superior. Oh hell...do whatever you want! You have the goddess back as your avatar; I have no choice but to take your advice! Except that I'm not sure what the advice was cuz I was paying more attention to the avatar/goddess than what you wrote. What did you say again?
  15. I'm not even close. Nor will I ever be. Not complaining, mind you!
  16. What an asshole. I bet Texas signs him before the year is out.
  17. Just watched the highlights. What a finish! Congrats for your team, man! David Dellucci.... used to play for the Rangers..... imagine that!
  18. Can this game get any crazier? Despite two errors and stranding SEVENTEEN at this point, the Rangers are still winning! And I take back every rotten thing I ever said about Kenny Lofton after that spectacular catch he made where he ran up the wall and caught the ball in the stands, robbing (I forget who was up) of a homer and doubling off another guy at first. I'm going to bed. I've got a busy day in the morning. Hopefully when I check in tomorrow morning, Gagne will have closed out the ninth and the Rangers will have won. And I'll win the lottery tomorrow.....
  19. Strangely enough, those links don't work any more and have been changed to the following: Turrentine Cox Foster (and this time, all twelve tracks are listed) I just hope Borders is still doing their buy-3-get-the-4th-free deal by next Tuesday! I'll probably regret it if they ever hit BMG, but these sound really good! Good enough to get on release date, that's for sure!
  20. No! That's one reason NOT to get the Mosaic; it really is nine discs of the same thing!
  21. Nah, two chances is enough; I saw him live when he was doin' the CHAOS tour (and let it be known here that I won both the CHAOS CD and the concert tix from a radio show; were it not for that, I might never have even considered buying CHAOS). It was a nice show, honestly. So much so that after the concert, I went and found DRIVING RAIN and FLAMING PIE cheap/used; was reminded again why it was a waste of time to investigate his solo work the first time around (Beatles infatuation, 1987-88).
  22. Amazing that Desmond set is going so high! Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for ya; I just can't understand why someone would want to pay that much for music that can be had much cheaper (ie you can find the same music on the RCA box used pretty easily these days). Ah, well, c'est la vie & all that! Hope you reap a pretty penny on that one!
  23. OK - concentrated Sonny Dallas then ! HELLO!!!! Sonny Dallas is the bassist. The wonderful Nick Stabulas is the drummer on the rest of the set. Oops! That's what I get for going from memory. I guess I could've easily looked it up before posting, too. That's it: I'm putting on disc 2 right now.
  24. If you're going to get that, you may as well get the box called STITT'S BITS: THE BEBOP RECORDINGS 1949-1952, which feature Stitt's work on Prestige in a variety of settings (quartet, big band, tenor duels with Gene Ammons, and the aforementioned groups with JJ and Bud). It's on Concord, the sound is good, it can be had cheaply, and is well worth the money IMHO.
