  1. Okay, give up on your team if you want; nothing us Ranger fans don't do on a yearly basis. We also seem to share the characteristic of being conditioned to lose on a yearly basis. I'm staying, though. And bear in mind, my team is further out of it than yours, and folks around here STILL talk like we have a chance at post-season play (and whupping up on the Tigers two straight games is only fueling that talk! {{{{SIGH}}}} ).
  2. Must.... stay away..... from.... da Bastids....
  3. Whattya think this is????  And I'll take whatever ya wanna give me! Shoot me a PM and we'll work out me paying for postage & all that.
  4. This is news? Like Dave said, get back in here. My team's been out of it since spring training, and you don't see me leaving in a huff!
  5. I got no real records to play!!! I have a total of six jazz LPs. The rest are rock & roll! And my Styx records. I gotta fix this. I'll be haunting the Half-Price Books stores around here, but I tell ya I'm gettin' burned out always seeing Boots Randolph/Herb Alpert/Kenny G/Spyro Gyra LPs alla time. Just needed to vent. Anyone wishing to make vinyl donations my way can PM me.
  6. You KNOW it!!!!
  7. There are quite a few that I return to a lot: BFT 28, disc one (MartyJazz) BFT 20 (mmilovan) BFT 18, both discs (mikeweil) BFT 21 (of course I'm gonna enjoy my own!) A lot of the others have moments that I've compiled onto a couple of "Best of" disc (f'rinstance, the four songs from marcoliv's BFT 15 that make up tracks 11 thru 15; Carla Bley-Steve Swallow's "Rut" from JSngry's BFT 4), but I'm curious to see what other participants' favorite BFT's have been.
  8. They're good for entertainment value. Since their lifespan is usually about 14 hours, it's not too rare to see one flying by, stop dead in the air, and just drop. Just a simple bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz <plop> and that's it. Watching them fly is like watching an airborne conniption fit. Maybe it's because they can't control those big wings? And yeah, those killer wasps are something else, but they're harmless. Of course, try and tell that to a nine-year-old and they won't believe you. I did see one take down a cicada (around here, we call 'em locusts) in midair and drag him to his hole in the ground. That was pretty frightening!
  9. Haven’t heard the 80’s issue, but this version is okay. Not the best sounding RVG by a long shot, but the quality of the playing makes up for that (i.e. shouldn’t let it keep you from getting it if you don’t already have it). Speaking of GG, I was listening to Workout yesterday, and it seems like there’s a couple of tracks on which Green doesn’t play. Is that correct? Or am I just not paying attention?
  10. Jimmy Smith Teddy Wilson Donald Byrd/Pepper Adams
  11. That's what I was thinking as well, but the version I know is the one from The Latin Side of..., and it ain't this one. Dan's messing with us again!
  12. Take me out to the brawl game.....
  13. Not even if I start smoking? Maybe. Can you blow it out your ears? I've been told to blow it out my ass before. Does that count?
  14. And I take back what I said about Another Workout. It sounds pretty good after all, especially when played back-to-back with Workout.
  15. Take heart, my friend: very few of us ever will.
  16. Wait... you mean National Enquirer has been wrong all these years? Shocked I tell you, I'm just shocked.
  17. Oakland will make a very nice patsy for some other AL team to 3 and out....
  18. This must be the JRVG mastering, because it's quite narrow, if it's in stereo at all (the altered cover says so! Gotta agree with you on that one.... bleah!) Having said that, it still sounds fantastic to these ears. And anyway, I prefer a narrower soundstage than a wide one. According to the note on the back of the CD case: The stereo version of this LP (BST) was issued years after the initial mono release (BLP). For the stereo master of “A Night in Tunisia” on this album and on The Best of Lee Morgan, the wrong out theme insert ending was edited onto the master take. It has been corrected for this release.
  19. The Angels certainly have the Rangers number. Oakland, unfortunately, is red hot right now, and is finally making the case for an AL West team to be legitimately represented in the post-season.
  20. Man, if I ever see that Mosaic cheap somewhere, I'm gonna snag it. Just based on THE COOKER alone!
  21. Picked up THE COOKER and ANOTHER WORKOUT. THE COOKER absolutely smokes!!! I'd never heard this disc before, and I'm gaga for this disc! My favorite version of "A Night in Tunisia!" Philly Joe just KILLS on this. Having Pepper Adams on it is a treat as well; just as nice as anything he did with Donald Byrd, which is saying a LOT! ANOTHER WORKOUT is also great music, but I'm not very impressed with the remastering. Sounds very flat. Whereas Philly Joe crackles and his snare-drum POPS with authority, here it sounds like he's playing through a giant marshmallow.
  22. Coleman Hawkins
  23. Pretty sure they're wrapped around a Buddy Bolden cylinder......
  24. By the way, how's Kenny Rogers doing right about now?
  25. Well, the Rangers win one by the skin of their teeth. I don't care what happens to the Rangers this year: Showalter should be fired. Brings out Volquez who's pitching a 4-hit shutout, brings in Juoquin (sp?) Benoit who promptly gives up three runs, who gives way to Rick Bauer who promptly gives up a run. Then our "closer" puts two men on with two outs in the ninth, but gets the third out on a long fly. So, the Rangers put another W in the column, but the real story is that they scored only five runs but got twelve hits. They left NINE MEN ON!!!! Again, if there were any justice in baseball, the AL Worst wouldn't have any teams in the playoffs, so that more deserving teams could taste post-season play. Makes me sick!
