  1. Looks like Mark left his brains on the floor of the AAC......
  2. Two words: Jon Hart. Worst general manager in the history of baseball. EVER. Thankfully we can now add the word "former" to the GM part. It's gonna take a looooooong time to undo the damage he did to the Rangers, both financially and morale-wise.
  3. My thoughts exactly, re: the Hawk! Always loved his "grab some bench," and am glad to hear that he still says that! (Don't have cable, so it's been at least ten years since I watched a Sox game on WGN)
  4. Maybe if A-Fraud would play up to the millions he's being paid, the fans wouldn't have to boo him. Make no mistake: I love it that His Importantness is flailing on the grand stage that is Yankees Stadium. As a Ranger fan, he earned my enmity when he came to town promising leadership and taking the team to a whole new level; only to skip town when he felt like "his" team was letting "him" down (and not paying him what he felt he was worth, never mind that he was already crushing our payroll to begin with). So my attitude to him is and always will be a big hearty FUCK YOU, ASSHOLE!!!! So yeah, I am absolutely loving it that he made... what, SIX ERRORS last week? Three in one game? And then after being moved to DH, he struck out ALL FOUR TIMES he batted last night? For the first time in my life, I actually felt a small smidgen of sympathy for Big George, having spent all that money to land a grade-Z dud. No matter how bad my boys do, as long as A-Fraud continues to expose himself as the low-class even-lower-talent that he is, all is right with the world.
  5. Covering artists not previously mentioned in my first two posts (gotta wonder what I was thinking when I posted those, though!): Johnny Hodges with Billy Strayhorn and THE Orchestra Duke Ellington at Newport '56 Johnny Smith - Walk Don't Run R.E.M. - Monster XTC - English Settlement Cannoball Adderley - Somethin' Else Chet Baker - Chet Getz/Gilberto Vince Guaraldi - A Boy Named Charlie Brown Donald Byrd - Royal Flush Kenny Burrell - Blue Lights John Patton - Got a Good Thing Goin' Paul Desmond - Bossa Antigua More next year......
  6. Zilch. So far.....
  7. Anyhow, didn't you see "Bull Durham:" Don't think, Meat; just throw!
  8. Dan, which pitcher? I missed the game last night (only caught the last pitch of the ninth on the radio).
  9. 1. The Honorary Funny Rat Forum - the place to discuss the various topics within the already popular "Funny Rat" thread, so that they might have threads of their own 2. The Big O Book Club - talk about your favorite books, so that individual books within the also-popular "What Are You Reading?" thread might have threads of their own. Whattya think?
  10. Pete was in one of Woody's bands? Learn something new every day around here! Thanks for sharing. Sounds like it was a blast!
  11. Me too! Could it be from this album? Cuz I gotta figure that's Art Taylor on drums, now that I think about it! No, it's track 4 from this album. Oh, now this is just plain embarrassing...... I have this CD, but haven't listened to it much because I'm waiting for the Mac bug to hit me again. Well, consider me bitten!!!
  12. Indeed. (Not to mention "Davis Cup.") Isn't this coming out in the September batch?
  13. Man, that MF is EVERYwhere!!!
  14. Maybe this is one of those years where they finally get it right! One can always dream, which is what I've been doing for the last 30-odd years..... No problem; I'm sure we'd do the same against the Yankees for you guys at some point......
  15. The Lionel Hampton Quartets & Quintets with Oscar Peterson, the lovely-looking box that Verve put out some years back and was recently discussed around these parts!
  16. I guess Thursday night's offensive barrage was a fluke after all. Who'da guessed that some timely pitching by Millwood & the bullpen would shut down the O's? 'course, this is the O's we're talking about here....
  17. ...and I still would not have placed any orders with Da Bastids!!!
  18. If one of those items is a Hamp/OP set, PLEASE let me know!!!!
  19. Me too! Could it be from this album? Cuz I gotta figure that's Art Taylor on drums, now that I think about it!
  20. I should've figured this was an ECM recording, based on the fidelity. I need to listen to this one again, now that I've seen the lineup!
  21. Another for the Bags and Wes K2 - an outstanding sounding disc, indeed. Don't miss the Mulligan and Monk, either. One of my favorites! A third vote for the the Bags & Wes disc, beautiful music beautifully presented. Also, the Chets are wonderful, well worth the upgrade. But then, what do I know? I'm just an idiot who doesn't own Monk's Music.
  22. Let's see: Rolling Stones Beggars Banquet, The Who Tommy, a couple of Takoma John Fahey records, Art Blakey's Mosaic and Ugetsu, Wayne Shorter's Schizophrenia, and the realization that Chuck Berry is the real king of rock & roll. All courtesy of my father!
  23. {{{kick}}} {{{kick}}} {{{kick}}} {{{kick}}} {{{kick}}} {{{kick}}} {{{kick}}} Can't believe I was so far off on the piano player!!! I know an embrocation that's efficacious in every case. Don't overdo it!
  24. Important stuff, Dan? I hope last night's offensive explosion by the Rangers is a sign of things to come, and not the usual occasional outburst before lapsing into another weeklong run-drought.
