  1. I can identify with this sentiment, although as Uncle Skid will tell you, I still have a soft spot for Styx. I'm listening to Retrospectacle right now (picked it up for $8.99, not bad for a 2-CD set). I think this may be a case of the memory of the song being better than the real thing. I mean, I'll always like "Bloody Well Right" and "Give a Little Bit," mainly because those are the ones that actually rocked. I'd never heard "Sister Moonshine" before this collection, and what a sprightly bit o' sunshine that is. But there's other songs that I remember enjoying a lot more back then than I do now. "Cannonball" for instance. Bleah! And then there's the vocal harmonies that sound like Bee Gees on helium. Pretty grating after a while. I guess I had to be there.
  2. Don't wanna jinx anything! Besides, my tastes change daily, so I may not even be in the mood for one of the Conn's if/when the Mavs win.
  3. Before last night, I would not have thought a sweep would've been possible. After the game, not only do I think a sweep is possible, I'm now wondering what happened to the Heat team that got them this far? Are they really this ineffective? Or are the Mavs just this good? I certainly think so! Hey $$1, who's your bookie? Keep on pickin' the Heat for me, willya?
  4. Sez who? The Jet and The Stack are on FIRE!!!!
  5. 16-point lead for Dallas at the half. Yikes! Allow me to be cautiously excited for the moment before the second half starts. WOO HOO!!!!
  6. 1st quarter was shit, on both sides. Right now, though, D-Wade is DA shit!!! Somebody STOP him, if you can!
  7. My dad used to work as an engineer at a steel mill when I was a kid. This happening to him was my biggest nightmare. My heart goes out to this man's family. What a horrible grief to bear.
  8. Well, I'm not even sure there's a Dallas "style of game" anymore. The Mavs of old wouldn't have shut down Miami for 49 pts after the 1st quarter. Guy I don't know about that; I think that the "bearing down" is their style of game; just wear down the opponent with that deep bench of theirs. I was also surprised by the rebounds, cuz it sure seemed like the Mavs weren't doing much rebounding last night. And I don't care what anyone says about Shaq not being as good as he used to be: Shaq on a bad day is still better than a ton of players at their best. I believe he was the reason the Mavs didn't charge the bucket much when the Big Diesel was waiting right there for them. This series is FAR from over.
  9. Hell yeah it's gonna be a great series! It wouldn't surprise me at all if it goes seven! So, you got your CD picked out if you win? Me, I'm leaning towards one of the new Conns!
  10. Helluva game so far. It's all about the D tonight. GO MAVS!!!
  11. Probably gonna get hammered for this, but oh well..... Actually He can and (I believe) He is. Fully God and fully man. Joseph may not be his blood father, but then I can't really see Jesus calling God "daddy" either. Probably not gonna be a satisfactory answer, but my answer has always been simply, faith. Which is what I usually fall back on when it comes to things I cannot explain. But then, I also don't believe that everything requires explanation. Sometimes what it is is what it is. What it will be will eventually be explained. I hope. When it comes right down to it, how can Christians believe in a Messiah who comes from that lineage? Have you seen that cast of "characters:" Abraham: knocked up his maidservant Hagar then sent her away and disowned his son Isaac: had all the backbone of a jellyfish Jacob: deceived his brother out of his birthright and his father into giving him Esau's blessing And that's the foundation of my faith! Then you got that wonderful family man David, whose only crime was offing his friend so he could have sex with his wife. Then all the Jehosaphats and Jehoshepheths who all did "what was evil in the sight of the Lord" and you've got all the makings of a "Springer BC." Honestly, if all the so-called "Christian" folks in the world ever TRULY studied the genealogy of Jesus, Alex, I daresay you might have a lot more company on your side. Now for a funny: what's the difference between an Atheist and a Lutheran? One has definite opinions on what he/she believes about God. The other makes an effort to go to church every now and then.
  12. IMHO, this is one of Jackie's finest, and it's a shame this didn't get released at the time of its recording. Even better than some of his better known recordings.
  13. Don't know that I'd entirely agree with that, although I see your point. I think that the majority in this country is religious, but that sure don't make them Christian by any stretch. Oh, they may call themselves "Christian"--and as a result, real Christians get blamed for the actions of the posers--but I'm reminded of the (paraphrased) words of Jesus when he spoke about folks like this "They'll say to me, 'Lord, Lord,' and I'll say, 'Go away; I never knew you. Where were you when the poor looked to you for help? When the homeless looked to you for shelter?" In other words, I agree with you in spirit, if not in technicalities. And I guess I'd doubt the existence of God if I was a Mariners fan as well. GO RANGERS!!!
  14. I'm a Lutheran, so I don't believe the King James Version. Serious answer (maybe) to be sent via PM, to be ignored at your discretion.
  15. ...which, of course, was the first track I listened to. Actually, I gave the disc the usual scan-thru when I came to this track. My son happened to be in the room at the time and we laughed our asses off! I'm honored, even if I have NO idea who it is!!!!
  16. So far, this disc reminds me of music I usually hear whenever I go to Waterloo Records. (Most Austinites and many Texans will know what that means). Will post more later. I hope!
  17. Dude, whattya think this is, a JAZZ Bored or something? Sheesh.....
  18. Where's the guy who says, "Jazzmoose, Jazzmoose"?
  19. but... oops. Missed that part. My bad.
  20. Y'know, a part of me wonders if this isn't just some sort of hoax perpetrated because of today's date.
  21. Really? So how much public taxpayer's money goes into those stadiums anyway? Don't get me started. Ameriquest Field used to be called The Ballpark in Arlington in honor of those of us who footed a huge chunk of that bill. (note tense)
  22. I was gonna say something to the effect of "How much further can her career sink," but I think you may have nailed it.
  23. Right on!!! Let the trash-talking commence herewith: I would like to apologize to all the Board members for causing the recent shutdown. Apparently, the greatness of the subject of my signature was too much for the server to handle.
