  1. I wonder if the CDs of those SST records sound better than the LPs did. Then again, all the copies I had were colored vinyl, so maybe that goes a ways in explaining the tinny sound. And FWIW, when I had The Living End, I always thought that was just as tinny as the rest of the records. (That CD never did much for me, I’m sorry to say). And Ghost, you start a Husker Du thread and you’ve never heard Warehouse? Shame! Shame! Shame! That’s like me starting a “greeeeeeazy” thread and not particularly liking Dr. Lonnie Smith. Wait a sec.....
  2. Shit, I’m so fucking stupid: I just realized that I typed “Greg” when I should’ve typed “Bob.” What a maroon I am.
  3. The "Theme from 'Blow-Up'" is worth the price of admission alone, IMHO.
  4. The thing that always pestered me about Husker Du albums was the way they were mixed. Humongous amounts of treble, hardly any bass. I always thought that was just the SST sound, but then when their Warners records were mixed in the same way, I just figured they actually wanted to sound like that. I mean, Greg Norton is on those records, right? It would’ve been nice to hear him on “You Can Live at Home Now,” my favorite Husker Du song. Speaking of Norton, has anyone ever eaten at his restaurant? It’s called “The Norton’s” and it’s referred to in the Magnet article. And speaking of the Magnet article, I’m curious: did anyone know about Greg and Bob? I never knew (nor did I ever care). Was it a well-kept secret? Or was it one of the worst-kept secrets, like Rob Halford? And why bring it up in the first place? Does anyone else think that Grant Hart sounds a LOT like Elvis Costello when he sings? Hell, some of his songs sound like what might’ve been EC & the Attractions had Steve Nieve never entered the picture. I need to revisit Warehouse again. So many of those songs got me through my 19th & 20th summers.
  5. Sure goes a long way in explaining his absence from the scene!
  6. Lon and Louis, both share the last name and the same birthdate. How wonderfully fitting! I would never have guessed you were fifty. I guess the music not only makes you feel so young, but even helps you look it, too! All the more reason to listen to jazz! Happy birthday, Lon!
  7. You guys do realize that the gap between the two colored Sox teams is getting thinner as the guys in Red have now won seven in a row? Oughta be interesting in the next few months. And what the heck happened to the Nationals? Only three wins since the Break. Ah well, rookie jitters I guess. Either that, or someone reminded them that they used to be the Montreal Expos. Meanwhile, my guys have lost two straight to the third-worst team in baseball, and seven in a row at home. May and June sure seem like ages ago now. October can’t come soon enough for me.

    August 2 RVGs

IMMENSELY cool!!! Right after you posted the back of those JOS discs, I started wishing that there was a site that had scans of the back covers. I guess you read my mind! But then it also shows how long it’s been since I visited that site!
  9. Actually, I believe he's one of the members of Sonic Youth. All the "yrs."
  10. What's sad is that it is a secret to the Rangers, who still think they are in contention. Eight runs against the Devil Rays last night and they STILL can't post a W. If I was Mench, Texeira, Blalock, I'd be contacting my agent to get me traded to a team that actually wants to make the necessary moves to win.
  11. At least they fixed the typo. Bad cover or not, this is definitely one I’m not gonna wait for yourmusic to get!
  12. How does Sangrey get his a full day before me, and we only live about 45 minutes apart?!?!?!?!? Needless to say, mine are here. Thanks again! Looking forward to discussing this one!
  13. Up for discussion now that the RVG of this session hits the stands today!
  14. I would be one of those people!
  15. Man, that smile is worth a lifetime of fond memories. Thanks for sharing that photo with us.
  16. Thank you. "Search" function seems to be asleep, too.....
  17. Alastor "Mad Eye" Moody ← Reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire reminded me that I never did get this post until now. It takes me a while, but I eventually catch up!
  18. I could've sworn there was a thread about this release at some point.
  19. Up for air as the countdown to Friday night begins. I'm psyched, as I don't get to play live..... well, ever. So this is gonna be a gas no matter what we sound like. I'm especially excited about the Golson pieces; those are a blast to play, and "Whisper Not" is one of my favorite ballads anyways! Anyway, if you're in the area I hope to see you there. And if you're in the area on Wednesday night, go see QUARTET OUT. Now THAT, my friends, is real jazz!!!!
  20. I know.... is that fucked-up or what? And then they acquire Chan Ho. You'd think thet were trying their hardest to NOT be in first!
  21. Conrad, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. It sounds like your mom raised some strong "boys" who will carry her spirit on. As a parent, that's about all you can really hope for and it looks like your mom did so fantastically.
  22. One of my favorite bassists! He tore it up something FIERCE on those Cal Tjader sessions for Fantasy. I'll be spinning those today. RIP to the REAL Big Al!
  23. Just brought in the paper and.... OH YES!!! OH YES!!!! OH YES!!!!!! THE DROUGHT IS OVER!!! THE PLAGUE HAS BEEN LIFTED!!!! CHAN HORRIBLE PARK IS HISTORY!!! IT'S ABOUT FUCKING TIME!!!! But you just KNOW as soon as he gets back to the NL, he'll go back to being the mediocre pitcher he was with the Dodgers. Hell, mediocre would've been better than the way he pitched here. And that was when he DID pitch, and wasn't being sidelined by injures! AMEN AND HALLELUJAH!!!!! Miracles DO happen! I thought this day would never come!!!
  24. That's the one!
  25. You mean like the Pearl Jams, the Creeds, the Ian Astburys of the world? But then, I remember being 15 years old, and thinking that No One Here Gets Out Alive was as seminal a rock manifesto as there ever was. Yeah, I even scrawled the spoken interlude from “When the Music’s Over” on my Sociology book cover. Tried to grow my hair long (oh, THAT was a bad idea!). Collected all the records. About the only thing I didn’t do was harbor a resentment towards my parents. Could never do that: mine were always way cool. My friends thought so. Heck, even I told ‘em so! I laugh about that shit now, but here I am twenty years later, and I’m listening to them even as I type this. Deep music? Yeah, right. But enjoyable? Damn straight! I still crank it up for “Roadhouse Blues,” “Moonlight Drive,” and “LA Woman.” “Wishful Sinful” is just flat-out gorgeous. “Riders on the Storm” is just plain eerie. Sure the words are dated, (REEEEEEEEEEEALLY dated), but they were a tight band. Nothing more, nothing less.
