Big Al replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
Hey Jim, I sent you a couple of PM's with addresses for the radio stations around here. Let me know if I can assist in distributing the discs to the radio stations for you! -

2005 Holiday Tunes for you!
Big Al replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
Aw HECK yeah, my friend!!! :rsmile: If you tell me which five you're using, I'd be more than happy to send a copy to KNTU (Denton jazz radio) and KTCU (Fort Worth radio that plays jazz every afternoon 2-4 pm). -
2005 Holiday Tunes for you!
Big Al replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
FWIW, I tried to program the tunes into an order that would make it sound like an actual Christmas LP. To that extent, I like the way the songs flow into each other in this order: SIDE ONE (19:18) O Christmas Tree God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen Funky Drummer Boy A Child is Born SIDE TWO (17:41) Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree* The Christmas Song Christmas Time is Here *I wish this version would get played in the malls instead of the Amy Grant version!!! I imagine being a little kid again, watching the organssimo Christmas record (especially the record label) spin around, cold weather outside, anxiously awaiting Christmas! Yes, thankfully, I never outgrew that part of life. Thanks again, guys. And happy listening! -
2005 Holiday Tunes for you!
Big Al replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
Well, now I know what a Christmas album by Larry Young, Grant Green, and Elvin Jones would sound like. WOW!!!! Thanks guys, and Merry Christmas to all of you. (And on a more anal note, thanks also for updating the tags on the previous years' tunes. ) -
You wanna copy? I'll trade you one for a copy of your BFT!
-
PM your mailing address to me. I'll gladly make a copy for you.

BFT#25, bonus discs: WOODY SHAW, 18-JAN-1983
Big Al replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Blindfold Test
Was cleaning out the desk tonight and came upon these discs, which I never listened to when I received the BFT package. Wow, this band is SMOKIN'!!!! What a killer show. Or like Peter Johnson said earlier, this show is just SICK!!! -
Up for more fun! Who knows? Not everyone got to guess, and maybe some have forgotten since I posted the answers. No peekin' now!
-
Actually, I dug it out last night too! You guys are alright!!!

I felt the same way when they tore down old Arlington Stadium.

Just did a search and didn't find the answer to these questions: was "It All Comes Back to You" recorded at the VV along with the other tracks on the original LP? Were the three bonus tracks recorded at the VV? Do the liner notes in the CD say anything about that, beyond the "commercial appeal" of "IACBTY"?

The ones in bold are no longer available. Wonder why?

Ahhhhh, at long last: MOSAIC!!!! Didn’t think that would ever get the upgrade! And GIGOLO!!!! How long have we been waiting for this one???? Man, this batch is gonna break me for sure! The two Dexters (and now I can finally get GO!), the two Silvers, and the aforementioned two...... ahhhhhhhh!!!!

I think it took me about four hours. I didn’t have a set list of songs I was going to use, I just started grabbing CDs off the shelf in no particular order and started copying and cutting. The only criteria I had was based on a 90-minute tape that I made about ten years ago, which also is nothing but short clips of songs. The original tape starts with a Styx clip (Skid’s gotta be laughing his ass off at that! ), and ends with the REM “I Don’t Sleep, I Dream” cutoff-ending. (A lot of the clips on that tape ended up on the SAS-BFT, BTW) Believe it or not, I’d been planning some kind of SAS CD for years, but never thought I’d be able to replicate the spirit of the original tape. I mean, when I made that tape, I was sitting around on a Saturday morning and thought, “Wonder how it would sound if.....” and I was off. That was a very spur-of-the-moment thing that I managed to stretch out over two sides of a 90-minute tape; I didn’t think that spontaneity could be recaptured. I guess the wait was worth it, as I rather enjoy this collection. However, I still prefer that tape over the CD, because some of the clips on that tape came from LPs that I never upgraded to CD. Hopefully, someday I’ll transfer that tape to a CD, but it’s a matter of what to leave out in order to squeeze it onto an 80-minute CD. I think I may be ready for a second volume, if you can believe that!

I gotta stop being so curious......

Bump it up cuz I recently found this at the library, checked it out, and fell in love with it! Bought my own copy, too; that's how much I dig it. When listening to it, it puts me in mind of two of my favorite albums: Jobim's TERRA BRASILIS and Hubert Laws' IN THE BEGINNING. There's something very atmospheric about this album, makes me long for long autumn sunsets and changing colors of the leaves. Plus, my wife likes it, which is always a plus. Extraordinarily beautiful music!

For the three or four people who requested the disc when I did my BFT, I finally got around to putting together the answers. Arrested Development cut to 13 Episodes

Now that's one I'd consider for "greatest ever" status! Do we have a dedicated thread for it here? ← Yes and yes!!! Although to be honest, I've never cared for CYE. A little Larry goes a long way with me. Arrested Development, OTOH, is (besides "Scrubs") my favorite show not on TV right now. Thank God for the DVDs, since Fox keeps moving it around and I never get a chance to watch it. -
