Yeah, cuz we haven't discussed the Red Sox or the Yankees in almost ten posts now.....
-
Well, I guess it was too much to expect that the Rangers could take three of four from the Angels. OTOH, if anyone had told me at the beginning of the season that the Rangers would split a series with the Halo's, I'da laughed my ass off. Still, OTOH, a split means no ground gained. Still, OTOH, a split also means no ground lost. Still, OTOH, that was a helluva comeback they pulled tonight, tying it up after being down by six. Still, OTOH, it wasn't enough, thanks to that wonderful starting pitching we have..... Still, OTOH, it proves once again that these guys never give up, signs of a good strong team. Still, OTOH, if the Rangers had started their relievers (like they did last night), they might not've given up ten runs like that in the first place! I think I've run outta hands!
-
Wow! Josh Hamilton hits a two-run walk-off homer to help the Rangers beat the Angels for the 2nd night in a row! Kinsler's hitting streak is at 21! And as if that wasn't enough good news, the Cubbies have the best record in the NL right now with 55 wins!!! Sweetness!

Haven't heard anything lately by him, but he did some kick-ass work in the 70's for CTI and McCoy Tyner (on "Free as the Wind").
-
Yeah, and he sang "Summertime" as well (can't remember if it's from "Cookbook" or the other one for Columbia). It would be nice if Columbia released Lonnie Smith's "Finger-Lickin' Good Soul Organ." Benson's on that and absolutely burns. I don't have that LP, but I do have a 2-LP set at home called "Benson Burner" which culls together a number of tracks from the sessions that produced the three Columbia LPs that Benson appeared on. That sucker lives up to its title! And best of all: no vocal tracks on this collection! All instrumentals, all fiery, and of course.... UNBELIEVABLY GREEEEEEEEEEEEAZY!!!

Oh, and I like it how the folks at Pixar have, once again, incorporated the voice of John Ratzenberger into anotehr of their movies with "Wall-E." I liked the spoof he did at the end of "Cars" where his character was watching all the "car" versions of other Pixar movies and he comments on how the one guy's voice sounds great until about the third movie or so, and Ratzenberger's "car"-acter (ha) says something like "Hey wait a second: have they been using the same guy in every movie? What a bunch of cheapskates!"
-
Absolutely totally completely positively 100% agree!!! What attracted me to the movie before I even saw it was, how are the animators going to keep the interest level high without any dialogue? Pixar FAR exceeded my hopes for this movie; actually, IMO, the movie dragged ever-so-slightly once there was dialogue. But it never lost momentum. I was in awe from beginning to end. And the short subject at the beginning would've made Chuck Jones proud. That rabbit looks like something he would've designed. I'll go so far as to say "Wall-E" is my favorite Pixar movie.

AOTW July 6-12 2008 ANY Freddie Roach Blue Note Album
Big Al replied to Soul Stream's topic in Album Of The Week
Oh how I want to hear these sessions!!! I keep hoping I'll stumble across TOCJs of them someday. (Edited to change from the singular to the plural, since all of Roach's albums have been listed for discussion, and I haven't heard GOOD MOVE in years, that being the only session of his I've ever heard) -
There's a house for sale next door to me; will you move there so I can call on you from time to time?
-
$60 for the Fuller box??? Sweet Jesus, SOMEBODY should snap that up! I would but I'm listening to my copy right now!
-
Four Rangers to the All-Stars, two of them starting. THAT is surreal.

Happy birthday, Randy!!! Keep bashin' those tubbs!  -
No OK? A trifecta would be nice. The facility may not be big enough for all three egos.

McCoy Tyner FLY WITH THE WIND

I remember watching and enjoying Bozo on WGN back in the early 80's. While certainly not classic comedy, the cast at that time had a great chemistry. Often wondered how many times they threw the script out the window and just improvised stuff, like Jackie Gleason & Art Carney.

Keepnews reissue of THE INCREDIBLE JAZZ GUITAR OF WES MONTGOMERY. I've only been able to listen to a few minutes of it in the car, but am I mistaken in hearing a mono mix? It sure sounds a lot warmer than the OJC I got rid of years ago.

Ahem! Please see: Lugo, Julio. You think you've got an axe to grind? I'm fahkin' Paul Bunion over here! He's still playing? Damn, I'm sorry. Seriously! I thought he'd stopped playing ages ago. Okay, SECOND-most overrated infielder. Are you serious? "Potent offense?" Where? I guess you're referring to Hamilton and Bradley, except that Kinsler is ahead of both of them with his .325 average. I guess that makes overlooking Ian's 16 errors a little easier, but still: the Rangers are once again only a game above .500 and sliding fast. The pitchers are banged up (again), the defense is lapsing (as usual), and the offense is sputtering (it must be July).

I'm jealous!!! Ah well, I'm listening to McCoy Tyner's TRIDENT. All is good!

Not if the dog has no legs. You could then name him "Cigarette" and take him out for a drag.... -
