  1. No, im sure this is the first time theyve ever been mentioned on this site. Ill check them out they saound totally rad!
  2. That was my initial reaction. ← Mine as well.
  3. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,168122,00.html
  4. Awesome shirt. Best ive seen on a kid was a the three year old son of a my Poli Sci professor that said "I'm an Democrat and I'm OK!"
  5. Right now its a huge jump to pay 40 bucks for headphones, 100 is simply out of the question. Thanks though. I know I should (especially as jazzman) but considering my employment situation isnt top notch at the moment good headphones will have to wait.
  6. Thanks for the rec's, but im looking for ear buds, no cans. Ill check out the link. And thos Sennheisers are only 20 bucks from amazon. Hmmm.....
  7. Anyone have suggestion for good ear bud headphone that is in the 25-40 range? Obviously good will be a relative term here. I have heard quite a bit about Sony EX71/51 but im not sure about the sound or the cords.
  8. 1. I agree they dont seek it out. My response was to CJ saying hippies run away from jazz. 2. Have you been to a Quanuum show? I am quite certain that they have a substantial black audience.
  9. In my experience "hippies" are open to all music (usually even rap.) I dont even know anyone who ive played jazz for that disliked it. The might not openly seek it, but most dig it.
  10. While I will admit that some of what you are saying is accurate, you are using a fairly wide a derogatory brush to paint an entire movment. Many hippie kids are very open to new music and do try to search it out, and many jazz cds are bought by these people. Of course it is unfortunate that jazz isnt more popoular among these crowds, but for alot of them it isnt about the improvisation but the energy of the artists. Thats why Soulive or live Miles is usually much more popular with "hippies" than Sonny Clark records. And I say this as someone who has attended every Bonnaroo and has nearly 100 Phish cds. These people aren't lemmings, they are simply people who aren't in to the softer sound of jazz, especially when they do not get to see the artists live..
  11. Im pretty sure im in the 50+ range, especially if you count box sets per disc (which I think you should.) I am astounded to hear that some of you have such paltry Miles collections. Although I understand not being freaks, he has atleast a dozen or so ESSENTIAL jazz albums. Considering that I dont think its a stretch to say a majority of all jazz available developed from Miles' innovation, I figure pretty much any jazz fan would like a great deal of his music. But I suppose when you start with Your'e Under Arrest I understand why one doesnt branch off from there. Of course, I only have 3 Duke cds though.
  12. The Miles 60s box was done very well. Track names, composer, and original album (and even album cover) was on the individual cd sleeves. Why they didnt do that for the other boxes is absolutely astounding to me. I hate having to flip thorugh the booklet for song title and original albums (usually at different parts of the book.)
  13. I love jam bands, and was raised in a hip hop generation. I dont get Soulive either. Its cause they suck.
  14. I never had the Live-Evil as I've known about this box set for years now and have been waiting to get the full concerts. I have been listening to it the last few days and it is just phenomenal stuff. Its amazing how lean this band was compared to Miles 72-75, which is the electric stuff I am most familiar with. This stuff has definitely been worth the wait. Hopefully yourmusic.com will get the box in for cheap.
  15. So what was that record again?
  16. Its decent, but it sounds very "echo"-y to me. Not a great sound to it. The Paranoid Android was good, but there is a 9 minute version floating around that is much better, in fact it is phenomenal. Brad for me is simply much more enjoyable in a trio.
  17. When LB coached the Clippers they were over 500 and went to the playoffs. If that is not greatness, I dont know what is. Additionally, overachieving based on team talent is nearly the definition of greatness.
  18. As a die-hard Pistons fan I dont think we were betrayed or we have knives in our back. We have a championship and we made it to game 7 of the finals this year. Im glad Larry was here, and I think his teaching will still make us a great team next year. I am also very interested in what he can do with that horrible horrible Knicks team.
  19. Are there any jazz guitarists around that arent influenced by rock? Seems like everyone since Hendrix hasnt been able to escape rocks influence.
  20. Some very nice stuff for the most part. I was actually quite pleased with the sound quality overall, but it definitely isnt great quality. You can download it from www.emusic.com for cheaper. Or at least try it out. They have a free trial. But a worthy purchase certainly.
  21. Hot Damn! about the Jason Moran. (Pardon the rhyme.) Great stuff from easily my favorite 'new' musician.
  22. Cant do that either. You can only stream the music while you are registered. As soon as you quit you dont get anything. Its actually still pretty nice. 10 bucks a month for unlimited music listening, including the entire Blue Note catalog. But nothing is downloadable or burnable without a fee.
  23. Its a nice service, but Im pretty sure those CDrs wont do you no good. You cant burn anything onto disc unless you purchase it per track (in addition to paying for the service or having a trial.) Ive used it., an its great. But i just cant see myself paying to listen to music that I dont own afterwards.
  24. An easier way then sending would be to give that person your email and password to login (if you trust them enough.) Anything that has already been downloaded can be downloaded an unlimited amount of times on any computer. They can just download it themselves. Of course, this is obviously a breach of copyright law and not there intended use. (However, if any one wants to PM me their email and password that would be ok.)
  25. I dont think their is a lost art of "writing" standards. There is simply a lack of incorporating new music into the repetoire. Many musicians consistently write engaging and interesting themes, but as jazz has progress from a purely innovative art form to a more personal expression art form, few are covering the contemporary music created by others. It has nothing to do with the quality of writing, but simply the approach to performance.
