I have Ephemera on CD. Stereo sound quality is excellent.
Recorded in London, 1973. Pepper Adams, Roland Hanna (p), George Mraz (b), Mel Lewis (d).
Email me at hershia@cfl.rr.com for more details.
I would like to see Sony/Columbia release the following LPs as CDs. Some of the LPs have been released as CDs by European labels but a high-quality Sony release would be much appreciated by Brubeck fans.
1. At Storyville (has been re-issued by Fresh Sound Records)
2. Blues Roots with Gerry Mulligan
3. In Amsterdam
4. Jackpot
5. Jazz Impressions Of The U.S.A. (has been re-issued by Gambit Records)
6. Last Time We Saw Paris
7. The Riddle (has been re-issued by Solar Records combined with Southern Scene)
8. Tonight Only! with Carmen McRae (has been re-issued by 101 Distribution)
Update to my post of 21 October 2009: The John Windhurst "Jazz At Columbus Ave" Transition LP was reissued on a mini-LP CD by the Japanese (THCD-127).
If you are interested in collecting Transition Label CDs or LPs please contact me.
Many thanks for the info. What is the story behind the Chazzer LPs? They seem to be a miscellaneous collection of live sessions. The album notes are worthless. Are the LPs rare? Stonewall15.
I agree with previous posts about the superiority of Shorty's early recordings. A nice, low-price, box set of early recordings is the Membran Quadromania 4-CD set. PM me for more details.
I recently acquired this LP. The first 3 cuts are by Thelonious Monk in 1948- he is accompanied by a trumpet player. The album notes do not say who accompanies Monk. It sounds like it could be Fats or Dizzy. Does anyone know the answer? Additionally, the last track is a Charlie Parker version of "Night In Tunisia" (mis-labeled as "Blue 'n' Boogie"). Does anyone know who played besides Bird? Last question- how rare are these recordings- are they released elsewhere? Is this LP worth anything?
Did anyone manage to record the 1955 Herman/Garner session before it was removed? If so, please contact me, either by PM or email hershia@cfl.rr.com. Thanx, Dan.
I agree with David Utevsky's post. There is nothing like a live DJ playing jazz. Radio station WUCF-FM 89.9 (Orlando) has live disc jockeys playing jazz from 6am to 6pm every day. They even take requests. WUCF-FM streams on the internet and is available everywhere. You can't beat this station!
Collectables reissued 2 Columbia Denny Zeitlin LPs (Cathexis and Carnival)on 1 CD. They left out 4 songs from Carnival. They did reveal this on the liner notes, but I bought this CD thinking I would get both LPs complete and was I surprised! Unfortunately I didn't get the notes until after I bought the CD.
I am looking for 2 LPs: MG-36121 Jimmy Raney/George Wallington "Swingin' In Sweden" and MG-12145 Duke Jordan "Do It Yourself Jazz".
Please PM me if you are interested in selling one or both. Thanx, Dan.
Looking to buy this LP. I am not interested in the 2-LP Savoy reissue. MG-12145 features a trio with Duke Jordan on one side and a trio with Hall Overton on the other. There is no sax player on either side. Please PM me or email me at hershia@cfl.rr.com. Dan.
I would never put an original CD in any car CD player. I make a CDR and then if a problem occurs I have only lost a copy and have not damaged or lost the original.
