  1. I would like to buy the Jerry Jerome LP. Dan. (hershia@cfl.rr.com)
  2. Can these BN HD CDs be played on an ordinary CD player?
  3. What is the site where AFRS Broadcasts can be downloaded?
  4. I couldn't agree more with Supa Groover. AMG is now worthless!
  5. The Transition discography that I have shows the recording date for TRLP-8 as 20 April 1955. TRLP-8 was never released but Train's Strain was released on TRLP-30 and the other 2 songs in the Paul Chambers Mosaic set. I do not know if the 2 songs, High Step and Nixon, Dixon and Yates Blues, were part of TRLP-8 but I suspect so. The discograpy shows TRLP-8 as a Pepper Adams session titled "Quintet Introducing Curtis Fuller". I would sure like to know the whole story on TRLP-8 as I am a long-time Transition collector. There is another unissued Transition session- TRLP-18 by Jay Migliori, titled "Jazz Down Beat" recorded 7 Nov 1955. One song (I think) is on TRLP-30- Something's Gotta Give. I would also like to have more info on this session- was it ever issued under Migliori's name or what? Another question- TRLP-12 titled "These Things By Dave Coleman" was supposedly recorded and then erased. One song, Backstreet (under the names of Dick Wetmore and Tommy Ball), in on TRLP-30 and may be from this session. Are any more of the Coleman songs issued somewhere else? Also- who is Dave Coleman? All I know from the TRLP-30 notes is that he is a composer- Google lists many Dave Colemans. TRLP-11, possibly is Charles Mingus at Newport, 17 July 1955- a Voice Of America radio broadcast- never issued. Tapes supposedly are in the Library of Congress. Again- any info on this item? TRLP-30 provides tantalizing clues to the above questions. The ultra-rare Japanese-issued CD of TRLP-30 (TOCJ-5889) includes an-unissued Tiny's Blues from the TRLP-1 LP session, as does the Fresh Sound CD (FSR-CD530) of TRLP-1 Herb Pomeroy and His Stablemates (Jazz In A Stable). Any help from you Transition experts out there will be highly appreciated. Dan.
  6. Amazon lists several brands of CD carousel players.
  7. What has happened to the Jazz Forum blog? I can no longer access it for the last week.
  8. Lately I noticed when listening to my stereo system it seemed left-hand channel dominant. I was afraid I had amp problems or other electronic ones. I then noticed that the head on my turntable looked a little askew. I loosened the screws and repositioned the head on the shaft and it solved my problem!!! I guess over time the slight mis-adjustment gradually occurred and just recently became noticeable.
  9. Does anyone have more details on the Erroll Garner piece- where, when, accompanists? Does anyone have same details for the Wes Montgomery piece?
  10. I live in Florida and none of the sessions will play in the US. Do recordings exist anywhere else?
  11. With this series cancelled is there any way to listen to previous broadcasts? I am looking for the Shorty Rogers show.
  12. Please look at my entry in the "Jazz In Print" category for a very interesting book.
  13. I just found this terrific book (158 pages) about collecting Jazz LPs. It was written by a long-time collector who has spent many years looking through record shows, garage/estate sales, thrift shops, and many boxes of LPs in various houses, garages, and other storage sites. The wisdom he has gained over this long experience is documented in the book. I have collected Jazz LPs for many years and find this book very enlightening, documenting many of the experiences I have had, and adding some things that are new to me. Of all the books on jazz I have read I would put this right at the top of the list. The title of the book is "Jazz On The Cheap: Reviews, Controversies, and Miscellaneous Musings About Jazz Records". The author and publisher is Lynn McCutcheon. He sells the book for $10 including U.S. postage. His email address is najp@embarqmail.com

  21. The following item is listed on eBay (item number 130490793211) titled "World's only recording of historic jazz concert". The item consists of 8 7-inch tapes. The jazz concert was held on Sunday, June 23, 1963, where 40 of the country's top jazz musicians gathered in the back yard of baseball legend Jackie Robinson's home on Cascade Road in North Stamford, CT, for what became the first annual Jackie Robinson Jazz Concert. Artists include Zoot Sims, Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Brubeck, Billy Taylor, Randy Weston and many more. These tapes could become a Mosaic or Mosaic Select set.
