FWIW - "Guitar and the Wind" was included as a bonus album on the Lonehill CD reissue of "Oscar Pettiford's The Manhattan Jazz Septette" Just placed it on the listening pile. Just saw this CD goes for ridiculous prices on amazon.

Excellent playing on a beautiful sounding and well recorded instrument, and a highly original program beyond the simple downplaying of Ordres. Recommended.

Herbie Mann is on this, uncredited for contractual reasons. He was allowed to record one album in two years on other labels than Atlantic, but did more, of course. There`s a note found on discogs: " The identity of "The Fluteman" remains in question. While Herbie Mann has confirmed to researcher Dan Skea that he appears on this record, producer Creed Taylor has also informed this researcher that Hubert Laws is the mysterious flautist. Given the aural evidence, it is possible that both appear under this title." And I wonder if that "Henry Watts" credited for playing vibes actually was Roy Ayers - no other recordings by that guy to be found. This and Herbie's A & M LP would have made a nice twofer CD.

Hi all, to further progress my work on a discography of Tito Puente's RCA years I need a copy of the second volume of the "progressive side" CDs: I can't find any used copies on the web. If you can point me to one or send me a CDr of it (I have found the paperwork on discogs) I would be grateful. I need to listen to that one outtake that was not released anywhere else. Thanks!

The remastering on the opening piano solos is better than any other I have heard so far.
