  1. ..... no cymbals either.
  2. This weekend's evening bottle: Chateau de RUTH Sainte Cecile 2016 Côtes du Rhône Villages Appellation d’Origine Protégée
  3. It is sad they became more and more market oriented after SONY/BMG bought them a few years later. They still do some nice new productions, but they sell out fast, and I cannot see much of a knowledgeable A & R mind directing the label.
  4. I had a closer look - indeed, looks like a first generation pressing, imported from the UK. I think I even remember the shop where I bought it.
  5. Last evening: Recorded on an original Flemish/French harpsichord in the open on the beautiful Place des Vosges in Paris!
  6. I am sure they will. It seems the set will include the entire The Real Ambassadors material, not just the tracks with Satchmo. In this case I might buy it.
  7. After I am done withn testing my new bedroom system with single tracks, it's back to the living room with LPs: Contrary to the times when I purchased that album immediately after release, when I liked it very much, Carter's twangy tone with the unpleasant pickup sound now gets on my nerves. I'm close to putting this into the "for sale" box. It's even worse with the follow up studio LP, which has a rather muddy sound. My hearing has changed, but this is almost unbearable. Robert Freedman's woodwind writing is great, though. Next, Ian Carr. I notice how much my ow musical ideas were inspired by this as I have listened to it many, many times. But as then, I find the themes are rather artficiial, honed in long sessions at the keyboard figuring out chord changes and melodic figurations. German critic Ulrich Ohlshausen's comment was that the Britisj jazzrock bands played that style better than Miles Davis himself. Oh well ....... Next, Arnett Cobb. This is the only LP compilimg all of his Okeh/Epic 45s. It took me a long time to find it. Too bad Chronological Classics did not reach this period.
  8. I know - I use JPC cover links only when I cannot find them anywhere else or when I don't have the time. For some reason they do not show up anymore on my screen, these banners ....
  9. Jonas Gwangwa, South African jazz musician and activist, dies aged 83
  10. That's all there is, I'm afraid. The later sessions for Hit were on an Affinity LP. Cheapest offer on Discogs seems to be $ 200. ... and there is the Keynote sessions CD: Diving into Ellingtonia is dangerous - the more you find, the more you want. More smal group stuff on this:
  11. ... and it is worth it - I never regretted buying it. Lots of good and entertaining music.
  12. I have to admit I didn't buy his Blue Note CD from 1998 because I found it a bit too tame - will listen to the new onre first. What about his three albums for Savant?
  13. He must have spent some time in Sweden - there are two sessions with drummer Don Gardner's group on Sonet, both form 1965, one with singer Freda Payne. The saxist on the left with glasses is Bill Leslie.
  14. !
  15. I have been listening to dozens of tracks from as many CDs to test my new bedroom system since it arrived last Saturday - too many to list them. That small Micromega MyAmp system passes the test effortlessly. Anybody looking for a cheap amp that sounds like a much larger and more expensive amp should consider it. The matching headphone amp is on its way to me. The amp can process signals from network via cable or bluetooth just as well, and they sound great, too. https://micromega.com/en/products/my-range/

  17. I reckon all British jazz fans voted against Brexit?
  18. Is there any forum member with a copy of the four volume Atlantic Discography by Michel Ruppli at home? I need a scan of a few pages. A local library has a copy but I cannot go there due to Covid restrictions. Thanks!
