I am looking for a DVD copy of the music video that was made in connection with Robert Altman's Kansas City movie. I have the soundtrack and the CD with the additional tracks, I want the documentary-type DVD. Whitfield and his peers recorded some excellent albums in the 1990's - IMHO there may come a time when they will be regarded as classic jazz albums just like the Blue Notes and Prestiges of the 1950's and 1960's.

Rush was on an Atlantic LP by Father Jack Herrera but played only one solo IIRC. You can listen to it on YouTube. After recording with McNeill and White he alternated with Rene Koopman at the piano chair of the Hot Cotton Jazz Band which recorded ten albums in the 1980's. Nothing more in the Tom Lord Disco.

Just had a sip of this treasure: GÉRARD BERTRAND Rivesaltes Réserve 1974 Appellation Rivesaltes Contrôlée 17 % Vol Vin Doux Naturel

Vinyl day today: Jimmy Rowles with Buster Williams and Billy Hart. A true free mind at the piano, free of any cliché. Recorded live at a Polish festival. Side one is nice, solo piano with Rowles reminiscing between songs. But side two is a jam session with players not up to his level and an average singer, and in bad sound. A compilation of two Eddie Heywood and one Barney Bigard session for Signature, with Manne and Heywood as common denominators. Someone really should issue a box set with all Sigbature sessions. Heywood is very underrated. His 1940's sessions are all great. Very original arrangements. Another free-minded veteran pianist.

AFAIK, no recording session, although he toured with Elvin. IIRC I saw that Jazz Machine edition in Darmstadt, Ari Brown being the second tenor. There was a Blue Note session with McCoy Tyner, Asante. He studied Coltrane so much, and still was no Trane clone. That deserves respect. I love his playing on that Tyner album. R.I.P.

Brandnew release, the best recording so far of these pieces, methinks, and the first one that is really complete with all repeats and all on one release. Rousset was concentrated and relaxed on that day, the harpsichord used sounds great and is perfectly recorded: Later this afternoon: Wanted this for a long time but only now found a cheap copy in perfect condition. Four original Italian keyboard instruments from the Nuremburg museum.

What a life! And proof that a great musician much too often is not widely known or on a lot of records. I always enjoyed his playing and especially his love for African instruments. Like here:
