  1. Me want! My wife and I chimed in the season with these two favourites:
  2. Yesterday, these two new acquisitions: The Whitfield is one of the best sounding live recordings I ever heard! Great playing, too.
  3. Asante stayed unreleased at first, too. Recorded in 1970, issued first in 1974.
  4. I was afraid so. I will look for the Rhino reissue. I want that bonus track!
  5. This Interview confirms some thoughts I had about Manfred Eicher as a producer/personality.
  6. Thanks for linking. A lot of interesting musicians coming from Chicago.
  7. The best Haydn piano recording ever! It got many rave reviews when it was issued, and rightly so. A must have!
  8. Last one early this evening:
  9. A very underrated album, IMO. Now playing:
  10. A Hi-Fi dealer once told me there is no player on the market that reads every CD without problems. The percentage is very low, but every now and then it happens. Last week I got a new recently manufactured CD and it took three attempts until my Marantz would read it.
  11. Surprisingly, it is not my favourite Duphly recording. A little too majestic and pathetic for my taste. His brand new Armand-Louis Couperin recordings, on the other hand, is the best and tops all previous versions, IMO.
  12. The DVD I posted seems to be different from the VHS tape I made from TV. I will have time tomorrow to make a last search attempt and get back to you in case I need it.
  13. There's a whole series of photos showing Whitfield up in the air in the booklet!
  14. Thanks a lot. Just downloading the files.
  15. I am looking for a DVD copy of the music video that was made in connection with Robert Altman's Kansas City movie. I have the soundtrack and the CD with the additional tracks, I want the documentary-type DVD. I had a VHS tape but that seems to be lost. https://www.discogs.com/Jesse-Davis-3-David-Fathead-Newman-Ron-Carter-Christian-McBride-Tyrone-Clark-Don-Byron-Russell-Malon/release/15554885
  16. Whitfield and his peers recorded some excellent albums in the 1990's - IMHO there may come a time when they will be regarded as classic jazz albums just like the Blue Notes and Prestiges of the 1950's and 1960's.
  17. Rush was on an Atlantic LP by Father Jack Herrera but played only one solo IIRC. You can listen to it on YouTube. After recording with McNeill and White he alternated with Rene Koopman at the piano chair of the Hot Cotton Jazz Band which recorded ten albums in the 1980's. Nothing more in the Tom Lord Disco.
