  1. A true rhythmoriginal. All my best wishes to him. There was a shorter docu broadcast on German/French arte tv years ago, but this one goes deeper.
  2. ..... plus some titles in other renditions by half a dozen other harpsichordists.
  3. A look at the Lord Disco tells he did two other dates for Prestige Sonny Stitt's "Goin' Down Slow", and Leon Spencer's "Bad Walkin' Woman", wrote charts for others like Etta Jones (Westbound). Later he wrote many albums for his wife, singer Marlene VerPlanck (née Paul). His career started in 1952 as trombonist for Jimmy Dorsey and Claude Thornhill.
  4. Duke Ellington's tune "Just Squeeze Me" is often miscredited as "Squeeze Me" by Fats Waller - probably because the musiciians omitted the word "Just" when they named the title.
  5. Just read a refund notification in my e-mail, my credit was not billed. So let's hope they get it straight. If they care for the music, that is. Seems that Chalkys started the refund pocess first, as it still is listed as dispatched in my amazon.co.uk account.
  6. Lots of good music played here today! I pulled this from the mailbox today, it includes several "outtakes" that were not on the Dance Mania Legacy edition double CD.

  9. So these are the guys that broke into the basement ten days ago .....
  10. Just looked into my e-mails - shipment confirmation received. Seems I am one of the lucky ones.
  11. After several listens, I have mixed feelings. I know about the difficult period in her life she had lived through before this album was recorded as an attempt for a comeback, and although her piano chops are intact, her voice has suffered, her intonation is a bit shakey and flat, and she forces things a little. The first track title "I sung just to know that I'm alive" could be the motto for the remainder of her life. KInd of ironic as she was forced into singing on her first nightclub gig that she played only to finance her classical piano studies. She should have undergone psychotherapy instead of psychiatric medication - the latter diminished her musical power. Still, a nice album, indispensable for any Simone fan. The horn players are nor credited - there is a nice trumpet obligato. Anyone knows who the sax and trumpet players are?
  12. This is an excellent solo piano disc!
  13. Yesterday and this morning:
  14. My copy ordered from amazon.co.uk was dispatched today. Seller is Chalkys UK. Didn't cost me more than from my usual German online retailer who still lists December 21, 2020 as release date. Maybe this will become a much sought after rarity ....
  15. Saw Ebstein perform with just a pianist about ten years ago, took my wife who likes this kind of singer. She was very musical and much better overall than one would have expected from her recorded output.
  16. Onme of the greatest! Live long and prosper!
  17. Did the same after reading this.
  18. I will stick to the LPs in roughly chronological order. But give me time. Puente's music is heavy stuff, and I need to listen to other things inbetween to avoid getting nervous from all that flaming brass.
