  1. This is another one I can recommend, as anything by Pirchner: https://www.discogs.com/release/1959942-Pirchner-Pepl-Jazzzwio-Gegenwind
  2. I never liked the German jazz rock bands due to their total lack of "black" feeling. Where American bands had r & b as reference ther German bands had a rock feel, which is too hard and stiff in comparison. Just my opinion, of course. I still have the LP by Head, Heart and Handy who were a magnificent live band, but the album is rather bombastic sounding with too many overdubs. Then I have the album by Frankfurt's band Voices, another great band live, but the studio recording is a far cry from that. Dauner's solo albums are great. Now that Dauner, Mangelsdorff, Kriegel and whoever was involved are all gone, who owns the rights? I have no idea.
  3. Spent the eveing after supper with this:
  4. The weekened bottle: Cantine Pellegrino Kelbi Catarratto 2023
  5. A group of traditional musicians joined by a Berlin architect who is an amateur bass clarinet player. They recorded it with a portable tape deck and two microphones, I find the instrument balance dissatisfying, the claps and sticks are too prominent. IIRC this is the only recent recording on Harlequin which otherwise reissued shellac dscs.
  6. Foday Musa Suso's solo CD is very nice and relaxed. The other two are field recordings and maybe more for specialists.
  7. It's a bit more detailed, as Duncan intensified his research in Californian newspapers. About 40 pages more text.
  8. As a tribute to the late Foday Musa Suso and The Gambia:
  9. Just ordered his memmoir.
  10. Yes, all of them.
  11. Oh no! I love his music. R.I.P.
  12. R.I.P. I was lucky to see him several times here in town with his quartet.
  13. R.I.P. I especially love his playing on this:
  14. Re-reading Duncan's book while preparing an evening with Tjader's music at a friend's listening saloon with a very expensive hi-fi. Vibes sound so great on his gear.
  15. Okay, the copy on the external hard drive plays. Quaility is substandard as you said, but to audition the movie it is sufficient. Thanks again for providing that movie.
  16. For reasons unknown the DVD copy of the VHS will not play anymore on any of the machines I tried ...... Maybe I have another copy on some hard drive.
  17. Must be late 1957 or 1958, released when the movie "The Big Beat" was shown. The recording for the soundtrack was in late June, 1957, the studio version for the Fantasy single was September 10, 1957. Will have to watch the movie again - the pic is indeed from the discogs seller offering that 45. Tjader recorded both tunes.
  18. Yes. I now have all tracks, I don't need every issue.
  19. Thanks! I was offered a copy several years ago, but that collector asked for $ 75 plus shipping, which was out of my budget at the time. This copy went for $ 8, the shipping was costly but let me add another two rare 45s:
  20. Today I finally found a copy of the last missing Tjader item in my collection: This track never was on LP or CD!
