  1. Yes I did. Sorry to say I do not listen to much jazz right now as I started work on a book project about early 18th century music that takes up most of my listening time. I will get back to it later when I need a break. 😅
  2. Earlier this week I took the SACD version to a listening session with a friend whose equipment cost close to a hundred grand. The sound was stunning!
  3. Hyman is an extremely versatile open minded and competent player, IMHO. His latter day solo piano albums are great, like he is a link to the past. I heard that Moog album on AFN radio when it was new and was thrilled. It actually was the first time I heard his name. I think it sounds much less dated than most other early synth stuff.
  4. Isn't Stitt on the left with glasses? This is Ammons:
  5. Just found this on this same forum, posted in 2009 by Tom Marcello, whom I consider a reliable source: "Another thing that's interesting is that Woody is playing with Maxine Gregg's ex-husband." Jack Gregg, that is.
  6. 200!
  7. I started as a teenager. First only a few items I could afford, then more and more during my parents' weekly Trips to Germany's first shopping Center, where I browsed the cutout bins. When the CD arrived I started selling the LPs when their counterparts had bonus tracks. My LP collection shrinked from more thab 6000 to the 1200 I still have. 10.000 items all together. Quanities depended on my budget, always too many. I think about selling stuff to save space and Region some Funds.
  8. R.I.P. Saw him perform at least once, during the short time he was with Mombasa; maybe another time I cannot recall right now.
  9. Did I mention Fred Schreiber? Cal Tjader was devastated when he died of a kidney disease. Big sound on an old German double bass.
  10. I saw him twice here in town as his German tour agent (now retired after severe back surgery) was located here. Always nice quartets with good sidemen. I must admit I liked him even more with his own groups. There is a nice CD with one of the bands I can recommend:
  11. Indeed very ineresting!
  12. Any comments on this release: It caught my attention at the time it was issued, but I never got around to listen to or buy it.
  13. I have these three Spotllte LPs, the music is very good and these albums did an excellent job at keeping Al Haig in the minds of jazz lovers. Lots of rare stuff. Many Spotlite LPs were released as CDs, no idea if these were among them.
  14. In memory of Russell Malone
  15. Listening to a lot of Janitsch this morning to identify his compositions in the new published works catalogue:
  16. What a beautiful photograph!
  17. Oh my ..... much too young. Excellent guitarist.
  18. Hmm .... maybe there is a remark i the brochure. They sit on a shelf in the basement but not easy to access right now. I will take a look.
  19. No idea, I don't have that set. Maybe someone who has it can take a look into the booklet. Cuscuna used to say such things in his producer's notes on tha last page. I just thought it confirms to his general production citeria.
  20. .... my edition is the original German CD which I cannot find on discogs.
  21. My guess would be Mosaic wanted to feature the Getz-Raney unit as a working group. The sessions before 1951 would not match that. There was more recorded at that 1948 session for Sittin' In With: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Stan Getz Quintet : Stan Getz (ts) Al Haig (p) Jimmy Raney (g) Clyde Lombardi (b) Charlie Perry (d) New York, October 25-26, 1948 C121-1 Pardon my bop (*) Dale LP21, EP201, Spotlite (E)SPJ140, Mainstream MDCD722 [CD] C121-2 Pardon my bop (*) Dale LP21, EP201, Spotlite (E)SPJ140, Mainstream MDCD722 [CD] C121-3 Pardon my bop SIW 532, Jade 702, Vogue (E)V2030, EPV1016, Jazz Sel (F)630, Spotlite (E)SPJ140, Definitive (And)DRCD11257 [CD] C122 As I live and I bop [Bopcycle]SIW 505, Mainstream M56025, Jax 5002, Dale LP21, Mainstream MRL364, MSTD101, Spotlite (E)SPJ140, Mainstream MDCD722 [CD], Definitive DRCD11257 [CD] As I live and I bop (alt,*) Mainstream MDCD722 [CD] C123 Interlude in Bebop [Bopelbath] (*) SIW 549, Dale LP21, EP201, Jade 702, Vog (E)V2031 Spotlite (E)SPJ140 C123 Interlude in Bebop SIW 505, Dale LP21, EP200, Vog (E)V2033, EPV1016, (Dan)JS673, Jazz Sel (F)673, Mainsteam M56025, S6025, MSTD101, MRL364, Spotlite (E)SPJ140, Dejavu (It)DVRECD17 [CD], Mainstream MDCD722 [CD] C124 Diaper pin [Pinhead] (jr out) SIW 532, Dale EP200, LP21, Vog (E)V2031, Spotlite (E)SPJ140, Mainstream MRL5007, MDCD722 [CD] C124 Diaper pin (jr out) SIW 549, Dale LP21, EP201, Vog (E)V3031, EPV1016, JS630, Mainstream MRL5007, MRL364, Spotlite (E)SPJ140, Dejavu (It)DVRECD17 [CD], Mainstream MDCD722 [CD] Note: Mainstream MRL364 titled "Yesterday"; rest of this LP by Wardell Gray, Al Haig and others. One take of each title also on Definitive (And)DRCD11136 [CD], Blue Moon (Sp)BMCD99958 [CD]. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A discographical mess indeed. If I read these data correctly, no reissue ever included all takes. There were sessions in 1949 with Getz and Raney for Savoy, Seeco, and Harry Lim, too. Kind of a pool of musicians.
