  1. Great news. I'm in for the Vaguard sets.
  2. Saw him conduct a local orchestra more than thirty years ago, interesting American composers pieces, Very sympathetic appearance.
  3. I always thought he was one of the greatest. The way he interacts with the soloists on those Prestige dates is fantastic.
  4. R.I.P. ..... sad news.
  5. Today: Bach's organ trio sonatas BWV 525-530 by different performers:
  6. This, plus the expected high import fees if I order from them directly will keep me from ordering this for now.
  7. The b flat major concerto from these, which I will be going to hear live this evening in the exams performance of Korean harpsichordist Hwan-Jeong Lee in Frankfurt:
  8. Looks very interesting! Today I hadpieces from these:
  9. All the "unreleased" tracks were on the CDs Michael Cuscuna produced for Roulette twenty years ago. I have them all and compared track listings. But back then only few people took notice.
  10. https://www.discogs.com/release/10863563-Hank-Jones-The-Rhythm-Section-The-Rhythm-Section-After-Hours Me want!
  11. Now Scarlatti from this box: Marcelle Meyer was the fastest hand ever among classical pianists, knew no technical imits but never sounds like showing off. She simply played the music. Even the pieces Stravinskij dedicated to Rubinstein and Horowitz that they avoided but did not admit that they found them too hard to play. Highly recommended!
  12. Yes! Much thanks!
  13. Hi all, I am sure I opened a thread What Classical music are you going to see live tonight or the like, but I can't find it anymore! Please help and post a link, I thn will delete tis one here. Thanks a lot!
  14. No jazz, classical, Latin, or rock - I thought this deserves its own thread, as I had very mixed feeling in posting this in the "rock"listening thread: French release, AFAIK the only complete Donny Hathaway box set. I wonder why Rhino never issued such a set. https://www.discogs.com/release/2243677-Donny-Hathaway-Someday-Well-All-Be-Free p.s. Just saw they did it in Japan, but why not the USA?
  15. James is da man for all things West Coast.
  16. Try to find Marcelle Meyer's recordings, they're mind-blowing! https://www.discogs.com/release/22212736-Strawinsky-Marcelle-Meyer-Petrouchka-Ragtime-Sérénade-Piano-Rag-Music-Sonate

    Going Mono....

Pressing a mono button is not the same as using different cartridges - that is where it starts. I found this article to be informative: https://ortofon.com/pages/what-is-mono Or this: https://dgmono.com/2018/04/06/deep-groove-mono-and-the-great-groove-width-mystery/ Finding out how the grooves are cut is the problem. I have a Thorens TD160 and two headshells, one with a mono cartridge with the stylus for wider grooves. Old 1950s mono LPs sound better with it. No mono switch needed, and my amp does not have one, anyway.
  18. Chabrier and Ravel by Marcelle Meyer
  19. There were different technologies, from simple piano rolls to sophisticated Welte-Mignon machines to the highly developped models Nancarrow used. Do some research on Wikipedia. Issues of these recordings sometimes do not differentiate.
  20. Fully agreed. That describes the reason why I bought and keep it.
  21. Sounds interesting, but shipping costs are prohibitive. It would cost me 40 bucks if I placed a direct order, plus customs and basic fee of €6 when it arives here. That's why JPC asks for € 61.99 for a copy ...... I just discussed this with a Swiss small label owner, it is no longer fun to order CDs from non EU countries.
  22. Lenny White and Milan Simich conceived a number of All Star recordings under various headings, The Chartbusters and The Essence Allstars, some dedicated to the book of 1960's Blue Note artists with clever combinations of players from two or three generations. White backed out later. Couldn't find any info on Simich. https://www.discogs.com/artist/636457-Milan-Simich
