Nat King Cole: His Musical Autobiography

Now that makes it a piece of interest to me, as I have only a not-so-great sounding Affinity LP reissue of the Decca sides, apart from excerpts on the big red Capitol box set "A Musiacl Autobiography", which also featured two discs of transcriptions etc. The Dexter session, btw, left me cold. Not for Nat, but for Dexter, who sounds too immature to me. Since I had the Affinity LP and all the Pres stuff I skipped the Riffin' box.

I would have xpected at least a decent Italian coffee machine from you ......

I think James Carter plays it ocasionally, too.

It is - nice summer wine for warm evenings like today and in the upcoming week - as the forecasts tell me.

Ordered after this was mentioned in the Anthony Cox thread, the mailman brought it this morning. Really an excellent album, These tracks are all little works of art best appreciated one by one. I regret I never had the opporrtunity to see Lacy perform - he was such a unique, free spirit, and one of the people who represent to me what the essence of jazz really is.

Geoff Keezer ‎– Zero One Amazing 1999 solo piano CD.

I got this for one track - the solo piano version of Tenderly recorded for MGM. But the sound of most tracks is rather muffled, the remasterings of other tracks I already have is audibly better on other CDs.

Lou Blackburn and Carmell Jones were old friends from their California days and both living Berlin at the time. I guess Jones' job in the Berlin Radio orchestra kept him from touring with Mombasa any earlier. I remember Tom Nicholas confirming Mombasa having plenty of gigs - Blackburn's wife was their agent, and kept them on the road - "sometimes too much", as I recall Tom*s words.

I saw Mombasa perform every year as long as they existed - in 1977 Doug Lucas still was the trumpet player. Next was a guy whose name I didn't recognize - there's only a "?" in my notes. Next was Ambrose Jackson, and after him, Carmell Jones.

Excellent playing and some of the best commerntay I have read about Cabezón and his music.

My sincere condolences. I always enjoyed his playing whenever I heard him.

CHÂTEAU DE JAU 2017 Côtes du Roussillon-Villages Somewhat disappointing. Nice for accompanying a dinner, but too weak as a standalone drink. Made from Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache grapes - I prefer Carignan as a base

I left a lot of money at the Cologne store the few times I was there. The Frankfurt branch was good, too, as the jazz department was run by a real fan. He let collectors like me reserve LPs on a shelf back in his office. Bad for my bank account .....

Currently re-listening to a lot of Cal Tjader for the revisions of the disco for the upcoming second edition of S. Duncam Reid's biography.
