  1. Oh, that looks very interesting. I got to know Robyn Schulkowski back in 1978 while working as a roadie for Peter Giger's Family of Percussion (Giger, Doug Hammond, Tom Nicholas, Trilok Gurtu), she attended a Bonn performance, was studying classical percussion in Cologne. She has come a long way ..... turned into a virtuoso classical avant garde percussionist.
  2. .. for the Baptist Beat ...
  3. IIRC there was the idea of a Mosaic box with all of Mobley's Blue Notes with Wynton Kelly, but these were all reissued on single CDs and we got the 1950's box - fair enough, as all other Mobley Blue Notes were reissued, too. IMHO they are all worth hearing.

  5. 2015 vintage, different printed label
  6. Anyone listening to Mongo Santamaria's band from the 1960's ....... check out "Cold Sweat".
  7. The Lord disco lists two unissued tracks from the session for that single. No LPs or CDs - the sampler posted above is outside of that disco's scope.
  8. R,I,P, One of those unsung jazz greats who never played a bad note and always found the perfect notes to play, in good taste and spirit. All of the many Prestige dates he did as a sideman in the 1960's are worth listening to, but his two LPs worth as a leader still has some tracks unissued and never was on CD. He came a long way, starting with Charlie Singleton's band in 1949, Lester Young in the early 1950's, Julius Watkins' band Les Jazz Modes, accompanist for Jon Hendricks and Lambert, Hendricks & Ross/Bavan, settling in California and playing for many singers, Lorez Alexandria in particular. His only other recrding as a leader was an LP for Interplay in 1990. To me, he was the perfect tasteful modern jazz pianist.
  9. Beautiful music, excellently played, on two wonderful instruments, in perfect recorded sound - nothing left to ask for. http://www.encelade.net/index.php/en/
  10. Trumpet player Lorenz Raab is incredibly good on this CD!

  13. I bought the two CDs on HEP with all the instrumentals and I am perfectly happy with them! Ordering from Hep directly works fine. http://www.hepjazz.com/hep_jazz_artist_biographies/chick_webb.html#CD1063
  14. Hi Rocky - playing not much at the moment, just a percussion group with former students of mine, and accompanying dance classes at the musical university in Frankfurt. I'll be in Vienna for a week next year (Wiener Neustadt, to be exact), visiting an old friend of my wife - great opportunity for another club evening. I bought several CDs from Flip Philipp over the years, all great music.
  15. Exaggerated, especially as these two tracks were on many LP and CD reissues. There are two 78's on Parrot that never were on LP or CD, but are available at low prices, although not in perfect condition:
  16. Hi Rocky, how are you? Haven't seen you here for a long time. Still have fond memories of our evening at Blue Tomato .... It's been a long time since I listened to the Colours of Chloe - what he says in his interview makes sense to me. I appreciate his frankness about the jazz scene. Things haven't changed much since then.
  17. Can you recommend the Joe Newman / Cootie Williams CD? I'm just listening to the Bill Coleman from that series, which is one of the most enjoyable albums I have heard in some time!
  18. This afternoon, parts of these two box sets:
  19. Glad I ordered my JPJ set the last time it went running low - although I got mine from Jazzmessengers. It is a very good and enjoyable set, of course - but what do I have to tell you ..... As of now, jazzmessengers still has the JPJ in stock, but they no longer list the Webb/Fitzgerald.
