  1. Stereojack is right! A look into the Lord disco confirms this.
  2. Got my copy of the Japanese reissue today. An excellent album, and one of the best Duke tributes I have heard. Highly recommended!
  3. That's because he did not write his discography with a database software, but as linked html/text files - this makes them cumbersome to handle. There was a page for each session, each release, besides the listings of all. If it turns out they remain gone from the web, I consider doing a McFarland disco with BRIAN, thanks to your search the basic info is there, and I saved it to my hard disc.
  4. It would be sad if all this information he had on his website was gone ...
  5. Happy Birthday, live long and keep up the excellent work!
  6. They groove so hard on Samba para dos - Schifrin plays way out solos, and Ben Tucker gives a lesson on what a jazz bassist can do in a Brazilian groove. Great!
  7. Good for those who still want a copy! http://www.mosaicrecords.com/prodinfo.asp?number=250-MD-CD But it was moved to "Last Chance"!
  8. Does anybody here have news about Doug Payne, the expert on Gary McFarland, Gabor Szabo, and many other artists? Whenever I try to access his website, www.dougpayne.com, I get a message that the account was suspended. I sincerely hope all is well with him ...
  9. The Lord Disco has the following personnel: Louis Armstrong (tp,vcl) Kid Ory (tb) Barney Bigard (cl) Charlie Beal (p) Bud Scott (g,vcl) Red Callender (b) Zutty Singleton (d) Billie Holiday (vcl)
  10. Happy Birthday, hope all is well!
  11. I first noticed him when he was in Yusef Lateef's quartet around 1970 - great bass player. R.I.P.
  12. Yes, it's not yet listed among the sets sold out, but the link on the homepage leads to an error notification. No matter which way I go - I can't find it anymore on Mosaic's website. I'm really glad I got me a copy earlier this year.
  13. It looks like the Lunceford box is sold out ...
  14. Mine is 2015 vintage - a perfect apperitif pour sunny springs days.
  15. Original green vinyl 10 inch LP - sounds great, wider dynamics than the CD transfer. Hell yeah! Tjader's bass drum on "Three Little Words" rocks!!!
  16. Glad I got me a copy - really superb, inspired playing by all five. Some of the best Jimmy Heath I ever heard.
  17. Found an original 1960's Verve mono pressing in near mint condition at a Frankfurt second hand vinyl shop that also bought some 250 LPs that I wanted to get rid of.
  18. What you posted looks like you have access to the Lord disco - the letter in brackets preceding the catalogue number - (G) - says it's a German label. I must admit I never heard of them ... and none of the items that show up in the label search is familiar to me.
  19. No - the OJC series simply counted on and passed the 1000 mark, only the prefix changed from OJC to OJCCD for the CDs. By that time they no longer had printed catalogues. It seems like the people in charge of the series had changed and did not look for a possible earlier reissue when a CD was attributed a new number. There also was an OJC limited edition series that started at 1700. I'd vote for the OJC series only if they had run it in a more consequent manner - sometimes they added bonus tracks to complete sessions, sometimes not, sometimes they even abandoned "original" LP compilations to assemble complete sessions, but more often kept the chaotic LP compilations of early Prestige material, in particular. In other cases they preferred to combine two LPs on one "twofer" CD but often omitted a track for playing time restrictions instead of reissuing the complete albums in the OJC series. Cuscuna at Blue Note was much more systematic in his approach.
