  1. Arrived this morning, excellent - a 460 years old organ ..... http://www.encelade.net/index.php/fr/hikashop-menu-for-products-listing/product/25700-in-nomine
  2. Agreed! But I'm afraid, the label, agOgique, is introuble - their website is offline for some weeks now, it is many months ago that I received their newsletter, and many CDs from their catalogue are listed as no longer available at several online stores. I received the last copy JPC had in stock. If true, it would be very sad, as their releases always were of high quality, excellent playing and sound, and often rarely heard music, as with the music of Dall'Abaco father and son. This morning's music: Another underrated piece of work: Violinist Valerio Lositio underpins in his excellent elaborate liner notes that this first printed collection of Telemann is a work of genius - I think he is perfectly correct. His violin playing is the best I have heard in the last twenty years: perfect timing and intomation, with very spare vibrato, but a sweet, beautiful tone - whoever says it needs constant vibrato is proved wrong by this. Highly recommended for all lovers of baroque violin music. This was reduced to € 3 per CD by JPC: A perfect introduction to the piano music of this genius, vividly performed, very convincing. Now again spinning Maurice Greene's music:
  3. He was great! R.I.P. https://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/music/svend-asmussen-irreverent-jazz-violin-virtuoso-dies-at-100/2017/02/07/e3aee760-ed59-11e6-9662-6eedf1627882_story.html?utm_term=.682221e54393 https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/10/arts/music/svend-asmussen-dead-jazz-violinist.html?emc=edit_tnt_20170210&nlid=12540549&tntemail0=y&_r=2
  4. He did so much for the music over here ..... R.I.P.
  5. Just ordered the Boogie & Blues Select and the Art Farmer single. The Pass and the Hines will have to wait .... I sincerely hope the Chick Webb will not run low that soon ....
  6. R.I.P. - I saw him perform in Frankfurt during his very first European tour, was impressed by his sensitivity. He lost me when me moved towards soul/pop more and more, but I always appreciated the rare occasions when he displayed his true jazz chops, like on Jon Hendricks' albums or his Accentuate the Positive album. Thanks for the moving moments I had with some of your singing, Mr. Jarreau!
  7. Clearly a desert island disc. Beautifully played and sung. The organ is one of the oldest in France, in a small town a little south of Lourdes, restored to playable condition in the 1990's. Vox Cantoris are six singers on this disc, and project a feel of true spiritual confession. http://www.psalmus.fr/fiche.cfm?id=21
  8. I learned about Mosaic from down beat ads.
  9. IIRC the Monk was relased first, and the next two followed. I, too, got the Monk immediately and the others some time later - when I think how complicated payment was back then ... I had to get a cheque in US-$ from my local bank and send it to Mosaic as a registered letter, pay bank and postage fees and waited for weeks until I had any confirmation, holding my breath. Today with e-mail and credit cards or PayPal it's all a piece of cake.
  10. Compared to what all those original album boxes and others go for, the Selects are high price - that may be the main reason. Look what you can get for the money you need for one Select ... and many projects they may have had in mind were done by Fresh Sound or others. There were sets with one, two or three discs well before the Singles and Selects, so it was a new attempt to market these reissues. I'll definitely get the Boogie Select with the postage reduction, and maybe the Pass box - I like Pass' playing from those years better than his Pablo albums, his drive and percussive attack.
  11. I remember from a conversation I had with Joe Henderson that he preferred doing standard material with musicians other than his working band because he never had the rehearsal time he needed to get his own tunes (or the Strayhorm material) to sound the way he wanted it. That said, it is sad there are no live tapes of his bands from the sixties. There are several musicians lacking live recordings - Cal Tjader is another example, on tour all the time, but rarely taped live for radio or by fans.
  12. Thanks again, Dan, for stepping in. Without being aware of it, you represented me well, as track 8 is one I had on my list of tracks to include on a BFT some day, so I know who it is, although I bought it for the drummer, not for the guitarist.
  13. ... and 50% reduced on airmail to Europe - the next order is due next week, it seems.
  14. This afternoon it as Torelli's Concerti op.6 - this is the true typical high baroque stuff, Torelli, Corelli, Alessando Scarlatti, Fux, Georg Muffat - more than the next generation of Bach, Händel and others who already incorporated many elements of the galant style. The CD title is a bit of hype, of course, referring to the dedication of the collection to Sophia Charlotte of Brandenburg-
  15. Listening my way through the Lunceford box, which I picked up yesterday - very enjoyable music. Some of the arrangements are amazing.
  16. Just learned from the newsletter of the German Jazz Institute that Michael White passed away on December 6, 2016 - I couldn't find any mention of this on the forum. Please forgive me in case I am mistaken. There is a loving obituary written by his wife, Leisei Chen: http://www.laweekly.com/music/the-spiritual-jazz-master-leisei-chens-tribute-to-violinist-michael-white-7816066 I really loved his Impulse LPs, have them all - such positive spirits his music projected.
  17. He must have been a real jazz aficionado ...
  18. Not that kimd of help - of course I know that song. Right now this fills my cup:
  19. Long live Benny Golson!
