  1. Funny, the van I use at work for transporting wheelchair users has a cassette radio, too. But I always forget to take some tapes with me ...
  2. Over here virtually nobody is writing checks anymore. Everybody's using ec cards or credit cards or - still a large number - cash.
  3. Inspired by this thread I walked into a local electronics supermarkt this afternoon after work and bought a X4-TECH cassette-to-MP3 unit for € 25 - not that bad. It comes with Audacity as processing software - that's good enough for me.
  4. Right now I'm listening to the Complete Clef/Verve Recordings of Anita O'Day on Spotify ...
  5. She doesn't look that sorry, and probably won't stay alone for long ...
  6. That's a very good album. I was surprised back then, as I hadn't expected Hargrove to get so deeply into Cuban music, but he did it really well. He was sorry that it was impossible to keep that band together, and rightly so.
  7. R.I.P. - great and solid drummer, one of the keepers of the flame of classic big band drumming. I have several records where he plays so well.
  8. Geez, he's only 58 .... my thoughts are with him, I have followed his career all over the years ans like his development - he is supposed to follow Kenny Barron on the throne of the best all-round pianist one day. Get well soon!
  9. Happy Birthday, and many more fine notes to come!
  10. Part of some concert on Decca was among the first jazz I ever heard, from an EP in my brother's collection, whose wife-to-be worked in a local record store at the time. This one could bring back memories ...
  11. I have all of the Fantasy and OJC CDs, sound is fine throughout. Fantasy had a no-nonsense keep-it-simple approach to recording in the 1950's that worked well. The CDs are 1-to-1 transfers of the tapes. But in some cases you need three discs to complete a session, discographical information is not accurate in many cases, five tracks recorded in stereo are in mono on the CD reissues, and two tracks from singles never were on LP or CD. The Fantasy SACD reissue of the Tjader/Getz session sounds terrific, btw.
  12. Yes, I have Spotify - thanks for the hint!
  13. Forget it. There have been considerations many years ago and inquiries, but Universal said they weren't interested. Hip-O-Select? I dunno ...
  14. Okay, found his website and ordered ..... thanks for bringing him to my attention. I love B3 and I love Monk, the combination is heaven on earth!
  15. Oh, I'd love to see him live - is there a CD? ... would be great. Buy a copy for me - I'm serious. I'll compensate for costs and postage ....
  16. That was Gene Perla playing bass in Stone Alliance - saw them three times, IIRC. Nice guys all, it was Don Alias who showed me how to do the "moose call" on the conga drum .... I miss him. he was such a great spirit in the music. Due to those darned GEMA restrictions I cannot see the youtube interview ...
  17. Close your sleeping room door, Jim - no other choice. Some metabolisms simply are not perfect.
  18. C'mon, buy her a real kit - she knows what seh's doing - never hits her food!
  19. "Responsible drinker"? I wonder what kind of person that should be ... there is enough proof that even 0.05 impairs reaction time etc. while driving - any drug has that effect, even much medication. So driving under any influence of that kind is irresponsible, simply because it does not only effect yourself, but any other person that might be involved in the accident you cause. I can understand you are weary of police control powers, but that may be due to other things they do. Over here I wish they would enact more control - every day I experience critical situations just because of drivers using their mobile phone behind the wheel. But I never see someone getting a ticket for this.
  20. I ordered the Tyner, that one was on my list for along time. I have most of it, but I want it all.
