  1. That neurological professor is Gerald Hüther, not Hütter. In my eyes this whole process is still the tail end of the bourgeois revolution in culture, narrowing tastes and levels. The dictatorship of average taste ... the media play a large part, in any part of human culture. People can only appreciate what they see/hear.
  2. Not exactly blues, but it fits the theme of this thread:
  3. Censor people must have been really dumb - or just the opposite.
  4. If you like it so much, check out the two LPs by Lenny McBrowne & The Four Souls, which have been reissued on this CD:
  5. They could announce selected reissues of rare items on a subscription basis. Define your baseline, how many copies you need to break even, and see what happens. The Japanese CD reissues basically are down that way - only that retailers are asked to sign up for a number of copies.
  6. Exactly. If a company like Blue Notes backs out of their economical responsibility, it's sad. They ought to take the risk. If they can't anymore, what's the point?
  7. Sorry, that brand is "Paulaner" ... Never too f.....ed up to drink!
  8. I never would let such substances get anywhere close to my hair ...
  9. I ordered a copy of "The Healer" for starters - thanks for mentioning that one. I reckon the trio heard on the video is the same, a tough unit. I sincerely hope he comes throuigh with the Kickstarter project ....
  10. Mr. Rischka was a guy from Stuttgart, like Dauner - you're probably right. "The Oimels" and "Knirsch" were all over the place, buit not those Rischka LPs.
  11. Where can I get that CD? That's too good for an April Fools joke .... I mean, I'd buy it, if it existed ...
  12. I just saw that he financed his latest recording on Kickstarter, but missed the deadline. Is there a chance to get the CD after the goal was reached? http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/490026334/dr-lonnie-smith-embarks-on-first-self-produced-rec?play=1&ref=users
  13. Into the 1970's LPs by German (or other European) jazz groups always were rather limited quantities, with very little international distribution. I do not want to think about how few copies actually survived ... It's no wonder they are so rare and achieve high prices.
  14. Dauner is always interesting - IIRC I saw this edition of the Etcetera band live - just as energetic and noisy as any US early fusion band. Fred Braceful was a nice drummer, groovy and freewheeling at the same time.
  15. Now I know why - it was a promotional giveaway for an agency "Rischka" in Dauner's hometown, Suttgart. Get it for more than $1.000 on auctions ....
  16. Never heard of this .... Found some details here: Wolfgang Dauner - Rischka´s Light Faces WOLFGANG DAUNER Rischka´s Light Faces CTR Produktion CTR 34694 Germany 1970 Recorded at Orange Recording Studios,London,December 1970. * Introduction * Taxi to Musberg * Rischka´s light faces * Heikideiki * Rischka for Rogue´s gallery * Om mani padme hum * Bumm Bumm´s lullaby. * Wolfgang Dauner(piano,organ ring-modulator,cembalo,clavinet,vocal,percussion) * Fred Braceful(drums,vocals) * Siegfried Schwab(electric guitar,concert guitar,sambul karang,percussion) * Eberhard Weber(bass,vocals) * Roland Wittich(drums,melodron)

They spliced together all the longer tracks originally issued on a bundle of 78's - luckily the original 16" dics overlapped a bit, but there were other problems - see Dan Marx' production notes. The engineers did a formidable job. Sound- and compilation-wise it is a great improvement over having all these tracks spread over several LPs. This 3-CD set is the only edition that has everything in one place that survived.
  18. They are using the amazon payments system beacuse it offers the option of charging at a preset date in the future - that's how Kickstarter works.
  19. Besides the early trios (which I like a lot, not only for Tjader) there are a few tracks scattered over the quartet LPs played in a trio setting for long passages, which always make me wish he had done a trio album with Wright and Morello. Like the opener "Melanctha" on the "Tonight Only!" album, where Desmond appears only for a short solo in the middle - the remainder is a journey through Brubeck's musical world like some Ellington trio pieces are.
  20. Thanks for the review - I sure will get it later this year.
  21. These must be some of the most elusive CBBB Lps. I have some obscure German pressing of Open Door, but its sound is below the usual CBBB standard. A CBBB project would be some of the best things Mosaic could do, if they could get a connection to the Campi estate. One Studio and live box each, before and with Kenny Clare, beginning with the Don Byas session that had both Boland and Clarke. I know I am dreaming ...
  22. Of course. There are too few of his tunes in the fake books etc. We have "In your own sweet way" in the bandbook - a real challenge to improvise on, as it goes through all keys, more or less, in one chorus.
  23. Okay now it worked - I was one the amazon victims yesterday. Good luck!
