  1. I have no idea - we get picked up at Heathrow and are taken straight to the venue, I have no adress or whatever. Kurdish organization borders on chaos, in most cases. Mikail Aslan's webiste hasn't any details, either. I have the exact flight details 'cause I booked it myself!
  2. Arrgh! I'm mad at myself I didn't look after this. Of course I have it, and was on the right track when it reminded me of "In A Mist" by Norvo .... Benny on bass clarinet - how could I forget this?
  3. A truly free spirit - R.I.P.
  4. I envision someone marketing some special CD friendly glove - "protects you and your CDs" .....
  5. Now "vinyl" stands for polyvinylchloride - not toxic AFAIK, or do you use the platters for serving pizza?
  6. Polycarbonate is what CDs are made from .....
  7. CDJapan offers this for US $ 27.46 or € 17.19 plus shipping.
  8. Birthday in Paris and with a Blindfold Test running ... a perfect party!
  9. Download completed! Thanks!
  10. Up - we have a gig coming up in London and two days off after that, Sunday and Monday April 27 and 28, so I'm grateful for any up to date info! Thanks!
  11. I think the Kenny Dorham - Hank Mobley frontline was one of the really great ones.
  12. Congrats for the spring girl - the nightingales outside arrived and started singing today to celebrate.
  13. Only 25 of several hundred - the next round of the upgrade game is on! I dunno - as great as Analogue's SACD sound, do I need another version? And I wonder if the bonus tracks will be added if available - the 45 rpm LPs had none. IF not, I'm going to hate LP replications even more ...
  14. Long live the king! ubu, that is!
  15. Rudy Van Gelder was miking the ride cymbals rather close - that can cause problems when they are suspended very loose, then you get all kinds of phasing effects; and sometimes he recorded them very hot - a slight override sounds that weird. The first Tina Brooks is an example. Blakey's ride is hard to take on that one. I had the Rainbow LP and was glad to trade it in for the Conn CD.
  16. Sorry I forgot to answer your question! Yes, the whole album is in that type of groove! Whenever I get to Texas, I wanna hear you play bongos in church!
  17. "I haven't a f....ing clue"!
  18. Are you talking about a track on this BFT??? Or some other track???? It's track # 22 on disc 2 that I'm talking about - that's a slow train to my ears - I'd like to take a ride with this piece as a soundtrack!
  19. ... and then there's one of the greatest "train" tracks ever in jazz - I know I have heard that one not too long ago, but can't recall where ... such a great arrangement, I love the clarinets in the reed section here!
  20. I have too little time for these things these days, but would hate to miss one!
  21. Again, a fascinating compilation, and again IHAFC ..... that guitar solo track sounds so damn familiar (# 7) - I think I have heard this recently but can't pin it down ... # 9 is downright fascinating: bass clarinet and marimbas ... starts like a distant cousin of Red Norvo's rendition of "In a mist" - I'd buy this in a minute. # 10 is very luscious tenor piece - who is this. # 13 is a killer! I want this!!! Great - I will keep this one as a great anthology of pre-war jazz.
  22. Thanks for this intriguing BFT! I find it rather hard to say anything specific about these tracks, I did recognize only one track and find it once more amazing how much great music there is that I never heard. I find all tracks interesting, and some are truly fascinating, especially # 2, 16, 17, ... all I can do is draw my hat and eagerly await the answers! Quite a lesson in pre-war jazz stylings. The one I did identify was # 12: Tommy Dorsey & his Clambake Seven, Twilight in Turkey. I bought a double LP of this band after a few tracks were featured in a Sunday jazz radio show. This remains my favourite track from that album. p.s. I should add this track is from 1937, and it's Dave Tough on drums. I wish had more time and energy for more concentrated listening and commentary, but some unexpected dental problem that resolved yesterday in removal of the tooth causing the problem, threw me off course during the last two weeks.
  23. That should be the March 29, 1959 session with Donald Byrd and Hank Mobley, released as a Connoisseur CD as My Conception. All I could find was this, though I could swear there was yet another... Those five tracks were intended for Blue Note 1592 as mentioned in the source you quote. The Japanese LP issue used the cover of Cool Struttin' and added "Vol. 2". The "another one" should be the March 29, 1959 session I mentioned: There were two unreleased sessions under Hank Mobley's leadership, too.
  24. I received Dial "S" for Sonny yesterday, and wondered why they said in the new notes for the RVG CD that it was not one of Clark's best Blue Note sessions, but now that I've listened again after last spinning the LP copy I sold ten or so years ago, I see why: Clark seems a little nervous (only his second session for the label and his debut as a leader), is not playing on the high level as on later dates, and his themes are not as brilliant as the ones he composed for subsequent albums. Mobley and Farmer play excellently, though. I think he grew considerably in the fast company of Blue Note regulars within the next months, both as a player and as composer.
  25. I'm awaiting Leonard Nimoy's debut recording on this axe.
