  1. "Reverie" is a Debussy melody, but the arrangement was by Melba. The studio version was recorded for Verve. (Issue I have is the Dizzy complete Verve big band sides.)
  2. I was a big fan of OPERA but encountered problems with the latest upgrade (was no longer compatible with my old operating system) - imported the bookmarks to Firefox without a problem. Firefox starts faster because OPERA had e-mail, newsgroup, and chat clients that I never used. The browser itself is slower than OPERA. The only thing I missed was navigating with mouse gestures, but the add-on for Firefox works now. BTW - no browser, especially not IE, displays the web pages exactly as designed - Microsoft stubbornly ignores some standards for their browser.
  3. To show appreciation of a great solo, or even some idea within a solo, of course. But it depends on how it is recorded - shouldn't be too obtrusive.
  4. Every time I pull this CD I get mad that Bob Belden mixed out the saw solo ..... Glad I kept the LP!
  5. Feliz cumpleanos!!!
  6. I would recommend this one instead.... I found this version is more to my liking: Kind of Black
  7. BTW - does anyone here have the alternate takes from these sessions that were bootlegged some years ago? Please ...
  8. The others are not that bad. The one in question did not have a title on the front cover, but was called For Those Who Chant.
  9. If you like it, you will like the two others by quartet, too! Same type of mood, but not too similar.
  10. Which Luis Gasca album???? There are four! The Little Giant (Atlantic) For Those Who Chant (Blue Thumb) Born To Love You (Fantasy) Collage (Fantasy) Not even on AMG there are all four, not to mention covers!
  11. I think I will skip that Sabbath disc ....
  12. The instrument is listed for 4 of the 7 tracks on that LP.
  13. Those Astor Place CDs are terribly hard to come by since the label went out of business. I have the first one, but never saw a copy of the second offered anywhere ...

    Bennie Maupin

    Good news here!
  15. ... but still not chance to sort out all K2 or SACD issues with the search function.
  16. I think twelve months from now we will know which path Concord will be taking. Right now, I'm not so sure, but wouldn't expect so much. I have the Coltrane box for quite some time now, there was a very reasonable Zweitausendeins campaign many years ago and I happened to have some money, and it sounds very good on my new Marantz SCD 7000ki player - the tapes will certainly not get better with age.
  17. phew - nothing availbale for decades, and then almost all of them, two CD issues and LP ...
  18. ... indeed, and I won't sell my LP although I will buy the CD as soon as it hits the bins! Redman's too (never heard that one before)!
  19. so it's all composed by Jonathan Klein? What style?
  20. 3 SACD box set ... to be continued ...
