  1. That explains why Black Lion did an extensive Candid CD reissue series several years ago. I suppose he leased them to that US company?
  2. Sure I would like to comment on this, but I never got around to hear this one - Belladonna & Labyrinth were the only Nucleus albums I bought back then, and it seems I liked them, 'cause I still have 'em. Ulrich Ohlshausen (one of Germany's leading jazz journalists) commented about the group that they performed that type of Bitches Brew fusion better than Miles himself at the time. They did a more controlled version of it, that was for sure. I like some passages on Belladonna quite a lot. The juxtaposition of Dave McRae and Gordon Beck on two different brands of electric pianos, in particular, yielded interesting results.

    jazz fusion

personally, I think, this is about as much as I need of this stuff.
  4. Thanks! I will compare with the other recordings I have and post later.
  5. Thanks! I like both Mintzer and Grolnick, so ......
  6. No need to tell about the snow here - the most snow in Hassia since 15 years. But nothing compared to Bavaria where they are afraid of roofs caving in from the snow for weeks now!
  7. If I could choose but one jazz - no, any style - harp CD, it would be the Prestige twofer of Dorothy Ashby combining her two LPs Hip Harp and In a Minor Groove - the reissue is titled like the latter. Flutist Frank Wess is an ideal partner, and the rhythm men (including Roy Haynes!) swing with zestful elegance. I have heard several Ashby albums, but these remain the best for me. There was a Japanese harpist following her style, Tadao Hayashi, who was killed in 2001, I have two excellent jazz LPs he made, three of them are available from a Phillipine site (that's where he lived last): http://www.book-of-dreams.com/philippine-music8.htm
  8. Moacir Santos is great - the previous release, Ouro Negro, is highly recommended - it's kind of a career retrospective. Moacir is the only composer I know who has not the slightest trace of darkness in his music.
  9. His Atlantic LPs start out like the one you have and get more soul-influenced with each new one. But the first four are pretty much in that bag, although a mixed one - everything from straightahead to experimental to soul is in it: The Complete Yusef Lateef The Diverse Yusef Lateef The Blue Yuself Lateef Yusef Lateef's Detroit
  10. Anybody happen to have this and can tell how it is? Thanks! Twin Tenors/Bob Mintzer (Novus) Bob Mintzer(ts), Micheal Brecker(ts), Don Grolnick(p), Michael Formanek(b), Peter Erskine(ds) 1992.11
  11. Well .... in case it wasn't named for the pasta:
  12. Judging from his commentary in the Cellar Door box he approves of his playing of electric instruments in that band. In fact, a very favorable approving. Was it Jarrett or Chick Corea who once said he'd never again touch an electric keyboard? Back to Jack deJohnette: Has anybody here ever heard the two Columbia or Epic discs of his fusion band Compost, where he played keyboards and Bob Moses handled the drums? A friend af mine had one of the LPs back then, but I never got around to tape it. And doesn't he play keys one one of his newer self-produced items?
  13. Wasn't Candid handled by ZYX just like Fantasy? That could mean they give up their jazz catalogue - there isn't much left after Fantasy's departure to Universal distribution.
  14. Mark Murphy is one of the greatest jazz singers around. He always was, at least since his two Riverside albums (get the OJC's while you can). Never heard him sing badly. That Nat King Cole tribute he did for Muse is great: It takes a lot of courage and skill for a singer to perform with just one instrument at a time!
  15. 17 different titles, € 9,90 each - well ....... I will get me the Freedom Now Suite, which I missed the last time around.
  16. I bet I know which one it is ...
  17. I understand that is the reason why the sets keep coming in batches again and again ..... their storage facility is big!

    Ingrid Jensen

    Well ....... doesn't she look a bit like Diana Krall's sister ........
  19. It will be very, very hard for Klinsmann to find a hole to hide in case his team goes on like this. I'd laugh my ... off when they don't survive the first round ......... I bet they at least have to work hard to move on.
  20. If it's only half as interesting as this thread ...
  21. Meinen allerherzlichsten Glückwunsch zum Geburtstag, Herr Rehrig! My very best wishes from your one and only fellow pisces in Germany!
  22. This thread will answer most questions .......
  23. Take my post above only for the early "acoustic" period. As far as the 1960's are concerned, I'm undecided. For the later stuff, this is of special significance to me and clearly tops the list:
  24. This is the one I put on the most often: ... this one being a close second:
