  1. Those LT covers could have contained ANYTHING! I alwys felt they were not like Blue Note Covers in any way. Anonymous. I'm not so thrilled about the Larry Young photo chosen either, they probably don't have too many colour pics for choice?
  2. ... and the drum is from East Africa!
  3. That's another good record - Stan Hasselgard was great! All the stuff released on Dragon is worth searching out. He would have been up to much more if he hadn't died that young.
  4. Isn't it overdue you applied for a job in the Blue Note cover design department?
  5. I second the speculation that since more US citizens speak Spanish rather than Portuguese, the "mais" (shouldn't it be "maíz", btw? - that's what my Spanish dictionary says) sounded funny to and "mas" made more sense to someone proofreading texts along the way - "Mas Que Nada" makes sense in Spanish. (Even the Latin Real Book has it "Mas Que Nada".) Got the 2 CD set today - it's a good selection. Saves me quite a lot of money on the individual CDs with their short playing time, and for the many less intricate pop tunes on them this is enough Mendes for me. Also got the "Primal Roots" CD - I love it, great to hear it without scratches and tape hiss after all these years, and stick my earlier post that it is THE BEST RECORD Mendes has made in his entire career!
  6. "Diaphramology" - this is sillier than some of the ...ology names Bird thought up! "Bug A Boo", "Bopology" .... oh my God! But shouldn't it be "Diaphragmology"?
  7. I plead innocent! Didn't even know all these sites - consider, John, what you've done to me .... Let's get back to the theme of this thread and post silly jazz album covers ... to find more of these we really have to dig in deeper, as the Mule rightly said. I'll do my very best. It's hard to remember all that silliness posted here, especially with a slow modem connection, so please accept my apologies for any duplications I might be responsible for ...
  8. For the German board members interested, Amazon.de has it for EUR 13,71. So I guess amazon UK should sell it too.

  18. Play me some sticky rhythms:
  19. Opie should be O.P. - Oscar Pettiford. I hear: "... and then they got into something" in the 4th line. Did you transcribe it yourself? From Monk's Underground album or from Carmen McRae's?
  20. What's on an organist's mind?
  21. ... and here's our new attaché case model organ:
  22. The cover designer's fee was so low he couldn't afford a meringue:
