NAH, This music will live on FOREVER. You've got at least another 40 yrs to enjoy it. Isn't it strange that this 10-15 yr period of music stands out so strongly in 85+ yr history of jazz. IMHO, although the 70's till now produced some memorable music, it just doesn't compare. It can't be just me-born in 1953-but we've got folks here born in the 70's and 80's, who get just as excited as I do when unreleased material, i.e. the recent Andrew Hill Connoisseur, is found/released. Maybe that is why Criss Cross is so admired for their hard boppish new Releases.

Another interesting calculation would be "How much of your music collection was recorded between 1955-1967?" I'm guessing 75%+ of my collection is from those Golden Years. Shows you where hard bop ranks with me...and many other collectors here.

What a mark-up for the SACD. $12.59 (plus shipping) for the CD but $46+ for the SACD. Has anyone heard either format?

This cd looks like it could be real special. Features Farnsworth with Benny Golson, Eric Alexander, Jim Rotondi, Curtis Fuller, and Harold Mabern-among others. What a line-up! Is it as special as this line-up sounds? I'm itchin' to find out.... Anyone out there heard this one yet?

SheldonM: Is Byrd touring or was this a one time occasion? He was supposed to play here in Portland a few years ago, but had to cancel due to sickness. How was his tone on the horn? Any talk about them touring? What a dream show it would be for me!

MOODY ALERT.... James Moody is doing a FREE set as part of this weekend's Cathedral Park Jazz Festival under the St. John's Bridge in Portland this Sunday at 6 pm. Worth a drive to Portland for fellow Northwesterners.....

I'm headin off to my local Borders in an hour to use my 20% off coupon on some of the new RVGs. Any comments on the sound quality of the new Morgan, Silver, and Smith RVG? How about the recent Blue Mitchell-I already have the Mosaic-sound improvement at all? THANKS, FOLKS -Jeff

What a nightmare to navigate the new AMG site So much for the new improved version... The "old" version, although many times inaccurate was at least easy to look up discographies! Not pleased at all

Ordered from Dusty (bastards!) lately?
jazzkrow replied to connoisseur series500's topic in Miscellaneous Music
They get my money probably 2 or 3 times a month. Those damn "New Arrival" lists they send out every Wednesday night are so enticing... Plus they get your orders out real fast. I also get a real kick out of their descriptions-every new week's arrivals are always "the best ever" or "beyond belief." The only thing they do not offer are "music samples." Oh, wait....Wednesday again Gotta go.. Wonder what is new this week. -
I gave my old copy of "Time Out" to my 21 yr old non-jazz loving son-who will not take my recommendations, but will listen to what Lester Bangs says in his books and later ask me for copies of what Lester recommends... You can't listen to jazz that the "old man" likes I haven't given up trying yet....

You can say that again! Simply the best display of live B-3 virtousity I have ever heard-including the legendary Jimmy Smith. Lonnie was all over the organ-and what a kind gentleman- sitting down with Matt and I to visit!! WHAT A NIGHT.... -Jeff -
YOU DA MAN, BIG AL Jest wish you were here this weekend wit' me to catch the Turbinator, Lonnie Smith as he blows into town... About time us Northwesters get some East Coast cats...
-
Lonnie Smith is coming to town-at the Blue Monk this weekend in Portland. He's backed by the Vancouver, BC band "Crush." Double M and I are going tonight! Any other Northwesterners plan on showing up? I can't remember Lonnie ever gracing our town before-at least since '85 when I arrived! Too bad he wasn't bringing along Sweet Poppa Lou (Donaldson)... (You can dream can't you..) -Jeff

Can anyone describe Graham Collier's cd "Songs for my Father" just re-released on Disconforme. Dusty Groove described it as late period Blue Note Mobley or Morgan-modal and soulful. Is that an accurate description? Worth getting? thanks, Jeff

Another vote for Blue Mitchell's "Bantu Village" and "Collision in Black." I recently found Mitchell's 1977 ABC/Impulse lp, "African Violet." A bit weak (but not bad for a buck ($1)-at least it features some tracks with Harold Land! Still working on completing my pre-1975 Blue collection... I'll always have a soft spot for Mitchell, my first Mosaic purchase-many $ ago

Just sent you a PM on the Horace Silver cd if it is still available! thanks! -Jeff
