Jason Adasiewicsz - Roy's World [Corbett v Dempsey, 2023] Great to have a new album from JA, it's been too long. Although this was actually recorded in 2017 so isn't new work. I'd love to hear some new music from him, he played brilliantly with Brotzmann earlier this year. This is typical of the music played by his Chicago generation, unsurprisingly given the band includes Abrams and Berman (with Hamid Drake representing the older generation). Great writing and playing. Saxophonist Jonathan Doyle is the only new name to me

Made a big impact on release too. The SHJ Blue Series are an impressive batch.

Thanks, not ideal as you say. The completest in me would demand that if I bought one I would have to buy all three 🙃 Maybe because the Lateef was RSD so has to have that premium priced in to make it attractive on that day (cynicism alert)

I've never got my head around that series of comps. Mind you, I haven't tried that hard. Are there complete albums represented or a number of albums chopped across the reissues? They always look tempting and you see them about quite a bit I think

I haven't listened to Cantuaria for a while. I like his albums a lot

Thanks TTK, I do definitely rate that so look into the release further. The only copies for sale in Europe that I could see on a quick initial look were all a Fresh Sounds reissue

Chet Baker, Jim Hall, Hubert Laws ao - Studio Trieste [CTI/Polydor UK, 1982] One of today's arrivals, I don't often find myself in CTI-land but this was recommended and was cheap.

Absolutely spot on

I played my original recently and thought it sounded great, apart from a short scratch I'd forgotten about. I'd love to compare the two.

On first listen, a very worthy addition to the discography. The sound quality is certainly good enough, better than the recent Seattle. The two tracks not on the Vanguard box, 'Africa' and 'When the lights are low' are probably worth the price of entry alone. Dolphy's contribution on the latter stood out for me. Of the old warhorses, 'My Favourite Things' sounds particularly good, I thought. I'd say any Coltrane fan is going to get something from this, Dolphy fans possibly even more so
