  1. @medjuckor @jazzbo Would this be a good entry read for someone woefully ignorant of the subject or is there a better intro bio of Armstrong?
  2. Listening to that now, thanks
  3. Papadopoulos, Kowald, Floridis - Pyrichia [Ano Kato Records, Greece 1991]

    RIP Jerry Butler

This thread is making me think where is @soulpope. He hasn't posted for a while now and he'd surely have commented here. I hope he's ok
  10. What were they thinking?
  11. You'll just have to come to him
  12. That's just how you describe it in English 😀 Jarrett to me is such an over- and self-indulgent play who "fiddles" more often than not. I realise this is a minority view but I'm happy in that minority, seemingly with Pim. I think Survivors Suite is such a success simply because his playing is leavened by the others' contributions more than on other recordings. And because it's a great composition. Where I disagree with @Pim is that I think the European Quartet players achieve this too on some recordings, 'Nude Ants' and 'Belonging' being examples. I can really only listen to Jarrett when he's in a band with horns. What's that @Pim? Not a name I know at all. Will have to go and research now it's on your playlist Aha, Waldron! Now I know why...
  13. And that's one of the best explanations of engaging with EP's music I have read. Reflects almost exactly what I experience. The recent 4CD set is a beautifully produced release, all solo. I'm not sure how much he travels abroad these days but if you get a chance to see him live, in any context, it's well worth it @Pim
  14. Pretty much the only Jarrett that gets spun here too
  15. I'm tempted by more Tina Brooks
  16. I wonder whether this new reissue campaign explains why Pure Pleasure's SE ended so quickly.
  17. Joe Chambers - The Almoravid [Muse, USA 1974]
  18. Onilu - s/t [Eremite Records, US 2025] release of the year so far for me. How could it not be with Joe Chambers and Chad Taylor on board
  19. That's a good album by a good band
  20. Nice catch, patience is a virtue 😀
  21. You lucky people!
  22. That's good to know. Time to purchase I think Great album. I saw the trio without Campbell, some gig that was Happy anniversary!
  23. Wait til you get to my age... Ending on a high
