  1. Me too, first listen and liking what I hear
  2. Yep, and I'm going to dig it out for a listen later (amongst all those Mehldaus...)
  3. That's a great album
  4. 'Live At The East' is one of my favourite Sanders too. Miles was Miles.
  5. Listening to Pharaoh for the first time since his death. I chose 'Thembi' and it strikes how that within the first two tunes 'Astral Travelling' and 'Red, Black & Green' we are presented with the very essence of his musical vision. Just a stunning combination. And then you get the irresistible groove of the title track...
  6. I'll stand up just a bit for Mehldau. I enjoyed a number of his trio albums and a couple of concerts. He took/takes himself a bit too seriously, definitely. It has to be said that I haven't listened to anything by him in ages and a number of his albums have just been culled from my shelves. So it's not a wholehearted defence... Joshua, someone else will have to step up.
  7. Oh, OK. Credit due somewhere else then. Or just maybe. I happened across it myself, probably hrough the same Wilkins route as you
  8. I like that Vandever album a lot. I think I may know of it because of an earlier post of yours. In which case, thank you
  9. https://dusttodigital.substack.com/p/presenting-beauty-to-the-world
  10. I often envy the great shows you see/have seen but this one is just unfair!!
  11. Absolutely anything by Musician. The gig I saw at the Vortex was one of the wonders of the world Yeah, me too. All of the suggestions by Steve and colinmce, except for Gayle who I was never convinced by. Ware on the other hand, completely convincing.
  12. I bought quite a few of that label about then but not that one. Any good? And I'll pick mine up at the weekend hopefully
  13. Another big fan of Code Violations. What happened to Thomas? Haven't seen his name mentioned for years
  14. Graham Stringer Hugh Trevor Roper Henry Threadgill
  15. That looks intriguing. Maalouf has left me behind in the last decade or so, so I may come back to him with this.
  16. Glad to see Zaum mentioned and the Quartet & Sextet/Babu Tri. There's a very nice Dunmall/Paul Rogers. More recently, I've enjoyed the releases featuring Nikolas Skordas. I agree about Haslam and the tárogató,
  17. I'm pleased to hear that, thanks
  18. waiting on mine, anticipation is high
  19. I'm probably too old to have musical heroes but Pharaoh was one and possibly the last living one. Such great music through all those Impulses and beyond. I was pleased that in his later years he continued to reach new audiences. Many plays of the Floating Points collaboration in the last hours I suggest, and for many that will be the gateway. The music lives on. Absolutely this, such a great thing to see
  20. That's where I've been going wrong...
  21. Was there talk of Pillars going beyond the original set of releases? I didn't realise that. Certainly his two most recent releases are back to Jazz but this was post-Pillars I think and it's not Jazz https://www.discogs.com/release/20291815-Tyshawn-Sorey-Alarm-Will-Sound-For-George-Lewis-Autoschediasms I suspect he'll continue to cross and blur boundaries
  22. Ahmed Abdul-Malik - The Eastern Moods Of [Prestige,1964/71 RE] Brotzmann/Van Hove/Bennink plus Albert Mangelsdorff - Couscous De La Mauresque [FMP, Germany 1971 RE]
  23. Looks like Rogue Art are trying out Bandcamp https://rogueart1.bandcamp.com/album/octobres Punchy pricing
