  1. I tend to agree about the floridness (is that a word?). I tried many times to get into his music but it never clicked. I do listen to him with Charles Lloyd but that's about it
  2. My first listen to this. Strikes me as another great job by Mad About Records. Sounds good, sleeve nicely done too I hear lots of Gil in this music, explicitly on some tunes
  3. Yes, a great album, a favourite of mine. Terrific compositions and playing by everyone now onto another very fine Polish album Andrzej Trzaskowski Quintet - Polish Jazz vol.4 {Polskie Nagrana Muza, USSR 1965]
  4. Komeda Quintet - Astigmatic [Polskie Nagrania Musa, Poland 1967, mono]
  5. Interesting, a UK dealer was also trailing an imminent Muse list recently. Wonder what the sources is. I'll keep an eye for your recs Hutchfan should the list materialise
  6. I didn't have it at all and this sounds great. I really like the session. The sleeve notes suggest it was shelved because it didn't fit the more out tone of McLean's other sessions about this time. I love those other sessions and this is a this pin sharp bluesy complement. That McLean tone slices through. I know Sonny Clark has his many fans but he's the weak link here I think.
  7. That's showing as being sold by Amazon at £64.64 at the moment here in UK
  8. That's it then, if they're in the Independent Enclave Of The White Rose there's bound to be logistics issues at the border, in and out... Many of my other independent label purchases have been delayed but none of them nearly as much as JiB ones, the Harriott is another case in point. The odd thing is the on their BC page the Russell LP says 'ships in two days'. Just doesn't mention from when, the twelfth of never perhaps. Of course, I could just listen to the downloads. Nice one on 'Blue Beginnings'
  9. I'm still waiting on delivery of the LP, ordered February last year. I was told recently it would be available in June. I do wonder if JiB is in a bit of trouble, what with this, a seemingly slowing of releases and the establishment of British Progressive Jazz. No real evidence just a hunch
  10. another first listen Jackie McLean - Tippin' The Scales [Blue Note, Tone Poet, 2022]
  11. The Brass Company - Colors [Strata East, 1975]
  12. Just heard that The Cookers played in town last night and I didn't know about it!
  13. But it's finally available on cassette...
  14. I don't know that one, should I investigate?
  15. Nathan Davis with George Arvanitas Trio - The ORTF Recordings 1966-67 [Sam Records, 2021 RE]
  16. Just wondering whether anyone US based could help me out buying from a US Discogs seller who doesn't ship to UK. I'm looking for someone happy to purchase 2 LPs on my behalf and then ship on to me. I'll cover all costs in advance through PayPal and I'm not in any great hurry for the onward shipping, just the next time you're at the post office. please PM
  17. This was a fantastic listen, thanks for putting it together. I know all the albums featured really well but the added context giving by you and Mary Stryker was very enlightening.
  18. Kahil El 'Zabar Quartet - A Time For Healing [Spiritmuse Records, UK 2022] looking forward to seeing them at Ronnie's next month
  19. A couple of new arrivals The Amram-Barrow Quartet - The Eastern Scene [Brunswick, UK 1958] Miles Davis - Blue Moods [Vocalion, UK 1964 RE]
  20. That's always worth a listen. I wish Adasiewicsz would re-emerge from what's quite a long quiet spell now
  21. Yeah, terrific album. One of the best I bought last year, easily
