  4. Jothan Callins & The Sounds Of Togetherness - Winds Of Change [Mad About Records, Portugal 2022 RP] First listen to this new arrival. Great music. I know the album from a none-too hifi blog download having come across it on a @felser BFT, I believe (thanks John) This is how to do a reissue properly. Great sound, heavy vinyl, crisp sleeve and insert reproduction
  5. and then the whole of 'What Color Is Love'
  6. If you have listened to Rotary Connection, Terry Callier, EW&F, Minnie Ripperton, Ramsey Lewis Trio and The Dells amongst others the chances are you may have heard his writing and/or arranging along the way. I'll let others who know more than me chip in with more if they choose And yes, great track. International Anthem are working with his daughters and promise more music later in the year
  7. For the Stepney admirers amongst us. This from International Anthem https://intlanthem.bandcamp.com/track/step-on-step
  8. I say three strong albums all of which I'm happy to own. 'Peace' is my favourite Baker album.
  9. Sadao Watanabe - Paysages [CBS/Sony, Japan 1971]
  10. As LP on dodgy, bootleg label Doxy. Even those are going for £50 these days. Discogs lists this CD issue which is both "unofficial" and listed as Prestige so that'll be a bootleg too https://www.discogs.com/release/5308885-Ahmed-Abdul-Malik-The-Eastern-Moods-Of-Ahmed-Abdul-Malik There is the option of the official LP, yours for only 900 euros ...
  11. Some British Jazz for the afternoon John Keating and All Stars - British jazz [Oriole, UK 1956] Bill LeSage directing Directions In Jazz Unit - Road To Ellingtonia [Phillips, UK 1965] Music From The Soundtrack 'All Night Long' [Fontana, UK 1962]
  12. Such a shame, some are taken from us just too young I discovered his music in the late 80s with 'Debenge Debenge' which just knocked me out. I have followed his recordings closely since and have many on my shelves. I had some communication with him when ordering direct,. I remember sending payment in $ cash as requested which seemed bizarre but worked. He seemed an absolute gem of a person on this limited evidence. I only saw him live once, he played a solo set and it was every bit as good as I'd hoped.
  13. King Cnut Isaac Newton Ken Livingstone
  14. Fan of 'Paysages' here too. I don't know 'Open Road' so will rectify that
  15. Another thumbs down on Scofield on that Henderson and mostly in general too
  16. x I wish that was nearer... I saw a very good Helen Frankenthaler woodcuts exhibition yesterday at the Dulwich Picture Gallery https://www.dulwichpicturegallery.org.uk/whats-on/exhibitions/2021/may/helen-frankenthaler-radical-beauty/
  17. Horrible to hear such news. A valued contributor. Condolences to family and friends like Mr Nessa
  18. Thanks for the write ups, just bought the Gato on the back of that one
  19. Charlie Haden - the Ballad Of The Fallen [ECM, Germany 1983] such powerful music, horribly apt for today's news
  20. That I.G Culture mix is Broken Beat, surely. Funny you should say that as the video features people having a good chat behind the DJ.
  21. Is Fred Frith on that?
  22. This has got me listening to Peterson's final album 'Raise Up Off Me', sounding very good https://ralphpetersononyxmusiclabel.bandcamp.com/album/raise-up-off-me He was one hell of a drummer. I was lucky enough to see him once with David Murray. I'm not sure I do either, always seemed a bit older but not sure if he was.
  23. Ralph Peterson's albums are the only ones I still listen to from this gang. Fo'tet especially
