  1. I'm hoping it might turn up here https://dochouse.org/ They showed the Milford Graves doc. I'm sure your wife will enjoy a trip to Bloomsbury...
  2. Is that as good as the cover? Mr Preview
  3. I don't think you'll regret it, John
  4. Self reliance, admirable
  5. Cue the gnashing of "no CD" teeth... It's good but the sound isn't too great, I thought. A bit boxy
  6. Wadada Leo Smith - Trumpet [TUM] Disc 1, first listen
  7. That Cage box is tremendous. I've been playing it a lot
  8. Yes, it works well. I've just ordered his new one after listening to it a few times, impressive I find that cover really inviting, screams 'listen to this and have a good time'. I only have one Lewis album, the Clifford Brown tribute with Lem Winchester who was the main reason for buying it. I'm going to try and listen to this one though. Edit to add: found the Lewis on Spotify. The era of instant gratification...playing now
  9. Nat Birchall - Mysticism Of Sound (Ancient Archive Of Sound, 2020)
  10. That's a great story. I get the impression from my communications with them that BH is very much an almost volunteer-based organisation, a very well run one. So maybe push came to shove it just made resource sense for them to employ Squidco's fulfilment expertise. Two good organisations working together.
  11. Grant Green Peter Brotzmann or Frank Wright
  12. Is there a companion issue that is 'Partially' Live?
  13. Well, why didn't you say so It says what it is in both paragraphs/links in my last post above - Anthony & The Johnsons - I Am A Bird Now. Hit the wiki link in my previous post for full info if you need any more
  14. Weirdest listening experience, so far, 'The 59th Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)'. Neil Charles, ladies and gentlemen! Terrific performance all round, mind. To think I had a ticket but couldn't go... Five discs in and the set is a treasure trove which is going to be mined for years.
  15. Why ever not? A photo taken of her used later for an album cover. No mystery there, surely "The cover is a photograph by Peter Hujar of Warhol Superstar Candy Darling on her deathbed (aptly titled "Candy Darling on Her Deathbed").[5]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Am_a_Bird_Now "1974 photo of Andy Warhol superstar Candy Darling on the cover of Antony and the Johnsons' second full length, I Am a Bird Now, is the perfect complement to the ghostly hymnals that flit and sigh behind its black and white shadows. A melancholy but arrestingly beautiful image, it depicts Darling on her deathbed; bright flowers float behind her upturned arm like a cluster of soft, pale moons radiating light onto the bleached sea of sheets in which she's drowning." https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/467-i-am-a-bird-now/
  16. Truly great album by a great artist. I hope she releases something again soon. I miss The Johnsons but Anohni's debut was an interesting development. One of THE best live experiences ever seeing A&tJs Candy, darling...
  17. And how does that stand up now? I remember the fuss when it came out, it was never really going to live up to it all. Crosby is such an important figure.
  18. Disc 3. having finished Disc 2.
  19. I don't know the albums under discussion but do know a thread on this era of Japanese Jazz will lead to bankruptcy (I'm only just readjusting after Rabshakeh's European Modernism thread) I thought we had a thread on the freer end of the spectrum from this time period in Japan but can't find it with a search but I'm not functioning very efficiently today so it's probably out there
