  1. Happy Birthday to the poster of extraordinary and eclectic musical knowledge!!
  2. I bought 'Time' on a whim and it took me aback. Coe is amazing and Bailey's not as 'spikey' as I usually hear him. 'Cyro' will be in my next HJ order meanwhile Michael White - Pneuma [Impulse/ABC] the third of the batch that arrived today
  3. Charles Tolliver Music Inc - Compassion [Strata East] This is just fabulous, first time I've heard Tolliver with guitar instead of piano.
  4. Harold Vick - Commitment [Muse] all the way from King Of Prussia, thanks John!
  5. I need to listen to these again. Soon I remember loving the Murray contributions at the time. It brought two of my early Jazz favourites together
  6. Gil Evans - Gil Evans [Ampex] prompted by the Billy Harper thread
  7. I bought that same edition a few years back. I had always wanted to investigate the novels as they have such a strong place in the city's cultural history. I struggled with the language of race in the first one and gave up. I often feel I should have persevered. I'll be interested to hear what you make of them. That was a right dog's breakfast. I saw it at the cinema. I remember the times well, coincided with my early years in London (Bar Italia!) and my early explorations of Jazz. Happy days indeed.
  8. Wadada Leo Smith - Rosa Parks: Pure Love [TUM] Simply astonishing. Another beautifully presented release by TUM.
  9. It's with Ekaya. More here https://store.gearboxrecords.com/products/abdullah-ibrahim-lp-pre-order
  10. I don't have any originals. HJ take most of my salary as it is!
  11. Happy Birthday Steve. Hope you're digging into that DKV set now
  12. Marshall Allen ao - Ceremonial Healing [RareNoise] initial impressions suggest this is another winner from this label I agree, a very impressive reissue. On the back of this I'll definitely be investigating some others, starting with the Cyro Baptista I think

    Billy Harper

Listening to Mr Harper on Gil Evans' 'Where Flamingos Fly' right now. Highly recommended.
  14. Thanks, duly noted and entered on the ever expanding list
  15. I didn't realise, thanks
  16. Larry Ochs - The Fictive Five [Tzadik]
  17. And I have one of those red and white postcards from the postman...rather than a red and white box from out West Here's hoping for the other reissues
  18. Now I could say something evasive but no, thanks for the correction. Back to school for me...brain addled by too much Free Jazz, perhaps? Meanwhile... Art Ensemble Of Chicago - Kabalaba [AEOC Records]
  19. Globe Unity Orchestra & the Choir of the NDR Broadcast - Hamburg '74 [FMP] Easter egg to self, arrived today...I'd prevaricated over this for a long while. I shouldn't have, it's excellent.
  20. Dembo Konte & Kausu Kuyateh - Simbomba [Rogue Records] thanks to Paul Secor for posting this and alerting me to its existence. Speaking of which, I'm missing his eclectic posts (always educational). Hope he returns to posting
